  1. push-starting a bike with a dead battery usually wont work, i had the same problem with my Jawa and unless they have power in the battery it wont spark, on small bikes with magneto ignition you can get away with it but not on these bikes with electronic ignition...
  2. Yesterday was great for bikes, i went off to George Whites in swindon to marvel at all the expensive bikes and gear i cannot afford, lots of bikers out and about, all nodded/waved... bikers are a friendly bunch arent they?, not like those miserable car drivers... now just need a few of my mates to get bikes so we acan all go on rideouts...
  3. ive already done a "dry run" of packing, packed my holdall with 6 T-shirts and 5 pairs of jeans, 7 pairs of socks and undies, my maps and other bits and pieces then strapped it onto my DT and taken it for a ride and im quite happy with it, doubt i will need the rucksack so maybe just a daysack will do. have a 3 season sleeping bag which packs to 30cmx19cm and have seen a nice Gelert Solo tent on ebay (packs to 40x15x15) so in terms of accomodation i think im pretty much all set toolkit comprises of a set of allen keys, small adjustable wrench, some cable ties and a mutli-bit screwdriver... should be , fits easily into the front pocket on my holdall. may go to Galway if i have the time... can't wait to do this on something bigger Touring sounds fun!
  4. hi there what colour is the end of the spark plug?, could possibly be a fuel mixture problem
  5. Yes, Original decals are also available on ebay. it may be easier to fill the dent in with body filler and spray over it that to get it out if its only a little'en. a good job can be done with rattle-cans at minimal cost if you are good, just make sure to use fuel-proof laquer or it will strip the paint off if you spill petrol on the paintwork mine was bought privately through Trade-it, check the wheel bearings aswell as they do tend to go with age but are simple enough to replace. what mileage does your DT have? green laning is what these bikes were built for!, i LOVE green laning mine , am also taking it around the republic of ireland in June.
  6. 1:) Parts are easy to get, ebay is full of them, most parts can be ordered in from your dealer, tyres are about £20 each 2:) It is a very good bike for day to day use, good riding position, comfy seat, lgiht and agile and good on fuel 3:) I paid £300 for mine with 23k on the clock in good condition. 4:) nope, these bikes are pretty tough, just check it runs alright at tickover and doesnt bog down or cut out when throttled up. do the usual (check forks for rust, steering head bearings e.t.c) and you should have a cracking bike! ive got a DT50MX (G reg, 1990) and love it, its not the fastest bike around but its easy to work on, cheap to repair and easy to modify. and if you throw it down the road a few times it doesnt matter because there isnt much plastic to destroy
  7. Hi everyone! updated progress on my proposed R.O.I Tour. the DT is slowly but steadily being prepped, new tyres, brakes, clutch, cables e.t.c and it has been quite reliable since ive started maintaining it properly. got my luggage sorted, a 58L holdall strapped to the back with a few T-shirts, a few pairs of jeans aswell as socks and undies, camera, phone, Tent, small toolkit and a rollup sleeping bag. and thats pretty much it. (luggage space is VERY limited) got my route all mapped out and have made stops for fuel, marked out the local B&Bs, marked out emergency routes, Campsites e.t.c Total mileage will be around 1,000, costing around £180 in fuel (averaging 50mpg) set aside £10 a day to feed myself (£140 over the total duration of the trip) and return ticket from Liverpool to Dublin is £95 hopefully will have around £500 to go with, currently got £150 so am part way there, im applying to 4 different places for a job and hope to work all through my holidays, evenings and weekends to get as much cash as i can. can hardly wait to get out there!
  8. what film was it?, looks quite interesting... hmm... i feel a download coming on
  9. have you checked the switchgear?, if it operates when you use the hazards or arm the alarm it can't be a wiring issue with the indicators. as for the rough idle, check the plugs and see what the fuel mixture is like, check compression and resistance of the HT leads
  10. some great pics there, makes me want to go around ireland on my DT even more...
  11. had to watch it again... love it gives me an idea for my Jawa... hmm...
  12. thinknig more transport wise, limos are expensive and boring... ... preferably something unique, shiny and loud...
  13. to me, anything bigger than 50cc tears down the road...
  14. Hi everyone. ive got my school prom in June and some of us have started making plans already RE: Limos and transport and all that mumbo jumbo. but whats the best way to make an entrance?, something different preferably, but not OTT. Maybe i could sweet-talk Goff into giving me a ride on the back of her streetfighter
  15. its got a bgione expansion chamber and slip-on, K&N air filter and 60cc big bore kit, but i have jetted up to a #115 main jet and did a plug chop, the electrode is a chocolatey brown but is starting to turn black because i am still running it a bit on the rich side. so fuel mixture seems to be fine. i was told semi synth holds its properties better through the temperature range than standard mineral oil, and it only really seem to be when i am batting along at 50mph (flatout) that occasionally it will cut out, so maybe the semi synth will cope better with the high temperatures and maybe help it run cooler by providing more lubrication
  16. you'll get there in the end mate, it will be worth it when you can tear down the road on your RS100
  17. never said upgrade it, if you want to keep it stock then go ahead, just if you want to tart it up a bit there are cheaper ways of doing it than using NOS parts, quite often its simpler and cheaper to replace the (often missing) original parts with aftermarket ones
  18. erm, just bled it until the oil was a pinkish colour (semi snyth) and not green (mineral). the mixture is fine so that can't be the problem, and as far as im aware there is no mint jelly in the oil pump, will take the oil feed pipe off tomorrow and give it a few revs to make sure the oil is getting through (will mix some oil into the fuel first though... running without lube is fail...
  19. yes i did fully drain the tank and lines and bled the oil pump according to my haynes manual... ... im getting good at this engineering lark , maybe if i keep practicing i wont break it so much...
  20. Hi everyone. ive jsut changed from using mineral oil to using Semi Synthetic in the autolube on my DT50MX as it seemed to be running hot and occasionally cut out if i was really hammering it along the backroads. is there really any reason to use one oil over the other and will using semi synth be better for my DT?

    Damn bikes!!

we all get times when we just want to beat the shit out of our bikes because they keep breaking. but once you get back on it and crack the throttle open, filling the street with the sound (and smell) of two stroke, it all comes flooding back why you ride bikes in the first place... stick with it,
  22. tank holds 14 litres of petrol theres a Jawa posilube pump on ebay, and some of the earlier bikes did have the posilube system fitted so perhaps the provisions for driving the pump are still on the engine?, will take the covers off and have a look i cba to premix really.... too much hasstle
  23. Too bad i can't make it as i would have liked to go along, im likely to be a serviceman myself in a few months (RAF, not army) Lyneham isnt that far away, i could have probably made it on my DT50... R.I.P Cpl. T Gaden

    Damn bikes!!

IF it turns out to be the gasket, can you not cut another one from gasket paper and save yourself some cash?. i managed to scrounge some gasket paper offcuts from my local Motorists Discount store and saved myself having to buy the £10 replacement NOS gasket
  25. just a wild stab in the dark... ... battery vent pipe?, maybe dropping a little bit of acid due to overfilling or through general use? take the cowling off and follow the pipe up into the bike and let us know if/what it is attached to
