  1. erm, if it has a seperate tank in the frame can you not strip it down to the bare frame and remove the tank/plastics, then sand blast the frame and have it powder coated? you should give the frame a final prep before coating anyway to get rid of excess sand/dirt

nothing fancy, just a chrome K&N style filter instead of the original air filter.
  3. i'll give ya £1500 for it

basically a little red light that goes on to tell you when to shift up, used commonly in racing i think Accumen do kits, try looking on busters/ebay/whatever
  5. sounds like a plan, this way if you happen to write another on off it wont be a great financial loss, but make sure you get a good'un Biking, once its in your blood, you're hooked

i doubt its running lean at less than full throttle, if i am coasting to a stop or down a hill and drop the throttle back to about half/quarter the bike will sometimes bog down and only after returning the bike to WOT will it clear out and begin to fire again, it also has a tendancy to fourstroke at less than full throttle. surely raising the needle would make this worse?

needle is in the top groove, i was running the bike at WOT most of the time but lately ive been using the gears a bit more and not thrashing it to the same extent, sionce then it has been absolutely fine, no power loss or cutting out

bike runs absolutely fine, after mid-range it gets onto the powerband. with the 115 jet i currently have the needle in its lowest position, so by going up another jet size i would not be able to lower the needle
  9. more than your 400 would ever be capable of
  10. im happy to report my DT has not seized now that ive got the mixture set up a little better, but due to torrential downpours i was forced to retreat into the shed and managed do some work on my ol' Jawa today , stripped front brakes and cleaned them out before bleeding and re-fitting, front brake pads are almost down to the metal!

in the summer i just give it a go over with chain lube if it starts to feel dry, removing the chain completely and degreasing using an old toothbrush dipped in petrol to remove most of the stubbron sh*t before giving it a spray with chain lube and putting it back onto the bike.
  12. Dammit, why wasnt i alive in the 70s?... that would have been soooo awesome
  13. wow... want one
  14. managed to make my way over to my dads place in hungerford, 15 mile trip averaging about 30-35, poor little DT was getting blown all over the road, struggled to make it above 40mph had lots of rain in hungerford aswell, luckily i arrived just before it started and left after the worst of it

given the carb a strip down and blown out the jets with compressed air. the engine doesnt NEED choke to run at full throttle, merely it WILL CONTINUE TO RUN. the needle is in the lowest notch already.

thanks everyone, it doesnt run noticeably bette rwith the choke on but ti continues to run, if i ease up on the throttle and start curising at low-mid revs it will bog down. will try a slightly large main jet and see how it goes

for brackets, fenders/mudguards and the like it may be worth stripping the bike down to a point where you can take the worst parts off and give them a good clean, i use an electric drill with a flapper wheel for large parts as this gets down to the bare metal, then a few coats of hammerite spray paint or BBQ paint if its a "hot" part

as previously mentioned, lidl do some bike stuff, give it a try im size 9 work boots, dunno about trainers as ive not had a pair for years, i wear me work boots everywhere i go even on the bike. its would prefer to go for a snug fitting boot as this would offer more ankle protection in the event of an off, wheras a larger boot would allow the ankle to rotate more within the boot. go to a bike shop and try a few pairs on to see what you think. could make the difference between a trip to A&E with a limp for a few weeks and walking away with a few bruises
  20. fact of te matter is, u still see lots of yamahs with kids havin a gr8 time on them u cna kepe your mobylites and mbks, DTs are old skool XD

just watched it as i had nothing better to do, and wow, what a race! congrats to Will, even if it is a win by default now ive seen what 250 strokers can do, i cant wait to get my Jawa on the road!

'fraid im not familiar with that particular bike, but on my DT the clutch mechanism is on the inside of the left casing, so if the case was held on too loose then you may have some problems with your clutch catching/releasing the bolts are just regular allen head bolts, available in most engineering suppliers or "hardware stores" i think you call them
  23. or maybe i send the complete bike piece by piece...

in winter its not so bad because the exhaust expansion chamber is right next to my right knee at high revs it runs fine with the choke on... just thought that was worth noteing... brakes aren't binding, clutch is regularly adjusted and has only done a few hundred miles since rebuild (plates and springs replaced) if/when it does go the power fades over a space of a few seconds and if you dont back off the throttle it will cut when i get the chance i will take the seat off the DT and have a look at the CDI
  25. i reckons i should get me a little mobylette... ... just so i can write it off into the side of a landrover and send an album full of post-writeoff pictures to OG
