Hello and welcome to the asylum, er... forum... remember to speak up a little when talking to oldgitonabike, he's a little hard of hearing in his old age
  2. any universal headlight unit can and will probably fit, these are available online or at most motorcycle dealers, universal mounting brackets are also available and then its a simple matter or wiring the lights in to the loom

reminds me of my homebrewing adventures... The cider was about 15% and i distilled the moonshine a little too much, was like rocket fuel... never again...

okay mate jumping out of second could indicate a worn detent plunger, this was and still is the case with my DT where it will occasionally pop into neutral, this should not require dismantling as the detent screws into the top of the gearbox casing (atleast it does on my DT) Exhaust sealents are available from any good garage or auto repair specialist, "Gun gum" is a very popular product, simply remove the exhaust, smear the putty around the part you want to seal and re-install the rough running when wet could indicate a worn plug cap and/or HT lead allowing water to get into the electrics and short them out, replace the plug cap and HT lead see if it makes a difference

nah i cant afford that! The DT has done over 6k on its current bore on the comma stuff and its all the same at the end of the day. A new bore is only 30 odd quid so after about 400-500 miles when ive used 4l of oil its cheaper to change the bore when needed

thanks for the reply mate, but i would rather not drill holes in my engine cover to run an external alternator, plus my alternator also has the contactless ignition sysem bolted onto the arse end, so removing the alternator would require me to fabricate an adapter to allow the ignition system to drive from the crankshaft in place of the alternator itself... however, if i can find an alternator with the same mounting pattern as my existing one that will fit inside the cover without needing to cut it up and i am able to drill the end of the shaft, tap it and use that to run my ignition system that would be ideal. maybe a trip down the scrapyard is in order, maybe rob one off the rideon mower... any chance i could use the rotor out of another alternator?, im assuming that is the faulty part as the stator windings are intact and have the correct resistance reading but thankyou for your reply nonetheless

haha, i admit the Jawa is a bit... erm... agricultural , looks like it may need a new alternator as ive checked the reg/rec and havent got a decent no-load current coming off the alternator, but atleast now i know what it is. BTW Tesco do semi-synth for £4/Litre, cheaper than Comma and now im using the tesco stuff as the shops were shut today when i needed some ¬¬

i use Comma brand oil in both my bikes (semi synth), in the jawa i mix 300ml in with every 10litres but the yammy is autolube :/ a 1l bottle of oil is about 4.95 and lasts just over 3 10l fillups

usually there is a bolt on the underside of the forks, undo this and you can pull the stanchion and valve out as one

  17. i must admit to having done a few mirror slaps on occasion, and once on the way to thatcham with my 'crew one of our peds was still restricted and some prick in a merc decided to undertake and cut up my mate on the ped almost taking him off, me being the cocky shit i am overtook the merc and gave him a brake test, put the DT into neutral, stand down and casually walked over to the merc before menacingly tapping on the window (reinforced glove knuckles make for great effect!) and went through the routine of "think thats a f*cking good idea do ya?, i catch you doing it again i'll have your f*ckin mirrors off alrite?", the look was priceless, a cross between "WTF?" and "oh shit". yes, nobody dares fuck with my little blue dragon

many thanks Jim, i think last time i tried plugging a multimeter inline with the genny i was getting about 2 volts, so if the genny needs to be changed that aint a big problem, there are/were two used ones on the Jawa/CZ owners club website for £8 a pop so i'll give the guy a ring tomorrow and see if he still has them

thanks for the input jim, im at a loss with the electrics now TBH, any chance someone could explain what no load checks i should be doing?, preferably with referance to the wiring diagram as i am just tieing myself up in knotts

it only seems to do it when the bike is warm, possibly clutch overheating? i will admit last night i was thrashing my little DT, racing starts, letting the clutch slip off the line to keep the revs up e.t.c
  24. try heating the stand with a blowtorch around the nut, this will cause it to expand around the nut and may loosen off some of the rust and shite, making it easier to then remove the nut
