ebay, breakers, maybe try your local yam dealer as apparently around 50% of RD parts are still available from yamaha (as told to me by ProBike Yamaha, Newbury)

Help! reg/rec info needed!
still quite pricey, as mentioned above i bought a new one off fleabay for £33 and OG, i have to be tight, who do the ladies prefer, the skinny teenager with a 21-year old XJ and no money, or the skinny teenager with a 21-year old bike and a little bit of money?...

1989 XJ600
as above, if its boiled dry its more than likely to be fucked, best to change it for the sake of £20 and knowing that new battery will give you (hopefully) years of reliable service . as for the fault, check your regulator/rectifier unit for any signs of burning, shorting e.t.c, its a metal box mounted onto a metal plate with a plastic cover over the front connected by a four pin plug (1 red wire, 3 white wires), pay particular attention to the plug which connects it to the bike as this may have been damaged (such as in my case...)

The regulator/rectifier turns the high voltage (around 60v AC at 4000-5000 rpm) into a usable 13v DC output which can be sent to your battery to charge it, it does this by using a "diode pack" (think of it as a series of one way valves) to create a constant DC voltage, with the excess being sent to earth through a heatsink, if one of these diodes fails it will allow AC voltage output, to test this disconnect the red wire from the reg/rec and put an AC voltmeter from the red wire connection on the reg/rec to an earthing point, if it is displaying an AC voltage the unit has failed and requires replacing (mine was showing about 1.5v AC at idle, and hence mine is f*cked)

Help! reg/rec info needed!
hi peeps had a little incident with my XJ on sunday, regulator/rectifier unit went pop, need a new one now... and im not shelling out £60 for one. where can i find another regulator/rectifier unit? theres some second hand ones on ebay going for around £20 but id rather get a new one that i can trust. are the units unique to every bike? or is there a generic part that would fit and do the job just as well? -Steve

1989 XJ600
Could be anything along the main loom, on mine it was the Regulator/rectifier unit which went bang, blew the fuse the first time, then melted the plug and earthed out the battery on the second time follow the cable back from the positive on your battery and check all the plugs for corrosion e.t.c, if a plug wont disconnect it is probably either corroded or melted on.

Tyres
hey peeps. well i have been riding the XJ for a few days now and apart from a blown fuse last night it has not skipped a beat. i now have a michelin pilot sporty on the front, and its quite awesome and the bike is cornering much better than it did before. but its nearly time for the rear tyre to be replaced, which ones are best to use? look at the <£60 price range. also, my bike is supposed to be running 110/90-18 front and 140/90-18 rear. but its currently running 90/90-18 front and 110/90-18 rear, any reason why the previous owner would have change it to these and what difference would i feel if i changed to the original specs?

Take your seat off and have a look for a box labeled "fuses", open the lid and you will find the fuse labeled "main" is most probably blown, it is a 30amp constant rated fuse. happened to me last night

2-Stroke meet - Squires cafe
well ive had the jawa since february 08, but after august 09 i joined the services and now have very little time to travel home and play with the jawa :/ does the divi use 36mm forks aswell? ive only noticed them on my XJ600(F), and if i change the yokes am i not going to need to change the headstock bearings and such? ridden it around the garden/fields and also up and down our little cul-de-sac a few times (only to test it, ofc... )

could it work?...
Hey peeps. just been reading through the squires thread, kinda made me think about my old DT and the smell of two stroke... and also my old Jawa and the smell of two stroke and the 'agro its caused me over the past year and a bit ive had it... so, im thinking of getting it back on the road... however, after the slight mishap with the forks and the late mr JimR (not seen him in aaaages!), ive given up on the stock jawa forks... now, here comes my brilliant idea... when rebuilding the XJs forks, i happened to notice that it uses 36mm fork stanchions, same size as the jawa, and the bike is more or less the same height and the same sort of shape (tourer-ish) albeit the jawa is about 50kg lighter. so, with that in mind, would i be able to; A: use a complete set of forks, front wheel and braking system from an XJ in my existing Jawa yokes B: use only a set of stanchions and the internal workings from an XJ with my existing Jawa braking system/wheel unit. if i can find an answer to this question, maybe i can coax the jawa up to Squires '11 (i really hope there will be another one, never got a chance to go to the last one!)

Fuck, feel like i really missed out ... there'll be one next year... wont there?... im tempted to get cracking with the jawa again, but thats a complete 'nother can of worms

dt50 not running after top end rebuild. please help
my dt used to start first kick without choke, be it in pissing rain or the heat of summer, if your is struggling sometimes my first idea would be to check the various rubbers for signs of an airleak, 46 seems reasonable for a DT50, they are only aircooled and if you have been using it for a while then it may put up a bit of a fight when you try and thrash it. its a 20-something year old bike, with 5 gears, going faster than it was designed to go, with a piston the size of an egg, its a bit like getting wine from a turnip theres only so far you can push it

DT owner again
dont sell it, you WILL be sorry... worst mistake i did was sell my DT , even if it did bite me in the ass a couple of times when i abused it... now its gone i really want it back but if you do want to sell it let me know , thats a very tidy bike i must say though, are you going to lock it away behind closed doors and never let it see a cloud or use it as an everyday classic?
