  2. ive got a load of old lighters on my shelf... looks like it could be worth a crack
  3. i have to say the continental doesnt actually feel that bad now ive given at a hundred or so miles to break in, still not the same feeling as the michelin sporty, though... the back tyre needs replacing soon aswell as it tends to skip over white lines in the road and tread is only just legal. Cheers for that Renntec link aswell, ive been looking for some of those engine bars but they are on ebay for £50+,

    Bikers !

My dad always had bikes, and cars, and lots of things with engines and whirlybits, got a DT50 when i was 16 as a way of getting around, got an XJ600 at 17, been doing it ever since, cheaper on fuel, tax and insurance than the car not to mention faster, plus its so much more fun, your not stuck behind a windscreen with radio 1 on in the background, if you ride through cow sh*t you can smell it and feel it through the handlebars, if its raining you feel it soaking your gear, it brings you so much closer to your environment
  5. Welcome to the asylum the pair of ya's, 18 years old and still on a CBT? i got my XJ600 at 17! any issues you got post a thread, i had a dt50MX at 16 which spent probably more time in pieces than it did on the road, so im sure either myself or one of the more experianced members of the forum would be able to figure out any problems -Steve
  6. woah, reminds me of a really good party i went to... i got the munchies now aswell...
  7. Tyre has now been put on the correct way, took it out for a good blast to didcot without incident, forgot how good it feels XD working on a pannier rack to mount on the back for a bit of touring action... hmm...
  8. Well, epic blunder on my part put the tyre on backwards didnt i :/, oh well, will remedy that tomorrow... then hopefully at the weekend take it for a good blast
  9. i saw it on there 3 times, each time it never sold, so i thought i would have it now all i need is a cheap NOS 110/90-18 for the back
  10. Cheers BWJ, i think generally its just a harder compound and a thicker tyre, getting it on the rim was harder than it was with the sporty, and now its on there the front wheel is definately heavier
  11. Hey peeps after leaving the XJ for many months sat in the car park on itsforks with no front wheel, i have finally bought a new tyre for it, its a Continental. and after many cups of tea, lots of shouting and swearing and a few tyre levers me and my dad managed to get the old michelin pilot sporty off and this new continental on, but what a fight it put up! the michelin was soft and squishy, and putting that on didnt take half as long as this new tyre did, the continental is much stiffer and appears to be made of a harder compound. my question is this, how would this new harder tyre affect handling, tyre life e.t.c HERE is the tyre i got, TK11
  12. Welcome to the Asylum, what size straite jacket would you like?
  13. payed £20 for my oxford one... or it may have been £30?... well actually my mum paid it on the condition that the bike was moved from the garage to outside so she could put her car in the garage, and that cover has lasted more than two years (albeit a few oil stains on the back from the DT exhaust), only problem i have had is after about a year the elastic was weak and as a result the cover would blow off, so now i tie a bit of rope around it and problem solved, the way i think of it, you can buy a £10 cover and maybe it will last 4-5 months, which equated in my mind to £2 per month for protection, wheras my £30 cover has lasted more than 24 months, meaning it works out as £1.25 per month for protection, which equals better value for money in the long run
  14. ive had my fair share of free rides and have to say its too much work, reminds me of lithium polymer batteries, under the right conditions they will go on for ages, but one little problem and the whole lot can erupt into flames and set fire to your clothes (i liked those jeans, bitch... and i still want my CDs back) however, with the XJ being such a small bike, it is just comfortable enough with my 9st. frame perched on top, not sure how well it would react to a double load (stop sniggering at the back...) for Goff, i would make an exception, but alas she has gone
  15. nah screw that shit, satnav on, headphones in, 120mph all the way, tent out, drink beer, job done
  16. Hippy noo y'arr en all ya piss'eds, am off me trolley en all is like bullshit, ive got magic trousers
  17. up.yours: that pic reminds me of the twins from scary movie...
  18. Hello peeps the snow has resided, i have a new front tyre on its way for the XJ, and it is time for me to venture outside of the warm confines of my 4x4 back onto the XJ... but i cant help but want to tinker with it... so far the only toys i have are heated grips, but i want to change that, what options are available for an old(er) bike such as the '89 XJ? i used to have a fender extender but that fell off in town and i ran it over, i have also been looking at universal steering dampers but unsure as to how i would fit one, and a motorcycle radio with headphone attachments basically looking for any gadgets or toys to make the journey more comfortable, input appreciated as always, foameh
  19. Nah, there aint nothing what can keep up with a Foameh listening to thrash metal through the headphones on a low-flying XJ. knee down with a 90/90-18 front tyre, woohoo!
  20. Wish santa had brought me a front tyre for the XJ... i keep getting this twitch to throw my leg over and give it a good thrashing... gave the lady friend a bit of a shock when i started making engine noises
  21. Thanks you two, input greatly appreciated, i think they are 6mm allen bolts and i will nip into ProBike later and ask
  22. Hi all the temperatures are now above freezing, the snow has gone, and i can once again venture out of my 4x4 back onto the XJ, however, theres just one little problem... the bolts that hold the handlebars on have little plastic caps that go over them, one of those is missing, the bolt has rusted, it pisses me off imensely and would like to find another plastic cap, but seem unable to find them, anyone know where i can get one? - Foameh x
  23. f*cks sake, why cant we get stuff like that over here?... f*cking government...
