    Well it's going for its retest tomorrow anyway, and the new head bolt should have arrived so I can fix it properly

    I've got a couple of manuals back on base but I'm away until Sunday night, if you PM me your email address I will scan the info sheet and send it over to you when I'm back. Also, are you using a motorcycle specific oil?, generic oil for car engines contains mobylene which causes wet clutches to slip, that was the problem with my DT50 until I changed it for the right oil.

    Well for the time being I have, but that's not the point... On the plus side, someone from the FJ group on Facebook is lending me a spare standard shock to get the bike through its retest whilst Hagon refurbish my original unit, result!

    Haven't got my haynes manual here with me to tell you, iirc the 80 has an extra plate than the 50

    the stud has actually sheared off bellow the surface of the retainer, I can wind another bolt in about one full turn on top of it so the threads are still okay in there

    Ah fuck, turns out the spare standard shock I had kicking around was for an earlier bike and doesn't fit! -.- does anyone close to Hungerford have a spare for a 3XW I can borrow for a couple of weeks? Have no other way of getting back to base on Monday if I can't get it sorted -.-

    I'm going to have a go at drilling it and using an extractor with the head in place, want to try and avoid taking the bike to bits just yet. It failed on the rear shock, apparently it's shagged although I've never noticed any difference tbh, going to swap it out for a spare standard one tonight and send the fucked one back to Hagon for a rebuild

    Well peeps I got back to the UK this afternoon and started about sorting the FJ for its MOT tomorrow. First on my list was fix that oil leak/smoke screen, from what I thought was the rocker cover gasket only to find this: P/O sheared the bolt off in the head, and then just held it in with silicon!, I mean sure I fix things with bodge tape and cable ties but that's just on a whole new level. If it doesn't pass tomorrow I'm gonna be walking for a few months! :/

    Yeah, been out in cyprus with work since the new year. (and other places inbetween). In all fairness, Ive spent most of it almost constantly pissed. Back in blighty tomorrow, gotta change the rocker cover gasket on the FJ and take it for its MOT Thursday :/

    Joblots are handy if you can be bothered to sort them out, I remember buying a near enough complete DT50 (bought for £50) just for its headlight cowling, ended up selling the matching frame and engine, tyres and swingarm and making my money back.

    I remember having carb icing issues on the DT50... And riding the 10 miles From Hungerford to Newbury in subzero temperatures actually caused my breath to freeze on my eyelashes. Heated grips are my saviour now
