  1. Welcome to the forum money!, for that price rip the guys hand off!, its worth that for parts alone, mine was sat outside for 12 years so no doubt yours is in better condition especially in the states, most of my parts including the seat have come from the states and are in much better condition than what you would find in the UK as for would i do it all again? probably, if i could go back in time i would have probably started with something a bit more simple like a CBR or a FZR, but im kind of glad i did choose this bike as every part you take off and strip down for cleaning you learn about how it works and the part it plays in making the bike run right, as for the key i took the ignition barrel to a locksmith and got a key cut to fit that, then i took the helmet lock/pockets/tank cap apart and changed the locking pins to accept the new key. go for it, you will regret it at times, but that's all part of the fun right? failing that put me in contact with the guy and i will buy it

As james said lads, if y'all want me to forward a bit of post on for ya's drop me a PM, as for the postage costs ive seen a few substantial quotes from overseas (most of the parts for the turbo have been second hand from the states) but then again they do have to wrap it up, send it to the coast, put it on a boat (toknaboot?!) and send it to my front door, so fair play to them

Why are you posting on here when you should be out laying down some rubber? congrats mate, still remember the feeling i got from those first two words of my biking adventure, "you've passed" XJ600 is a good bet, fast enough to give you a thrill, forgiving and almost cheaper than walking

Aye, thats not my Donkey mine had renthal bars, bigone exhaust system, K&N style air filter and some dodgey mini indicators, an aftermarket headlight unit and a few other toys
  9. 1) can't comment as ive never had my XJ carbs apart, best thing to do is perform a plug chop (put the bike under load, i.e. give it a blast and when you are at full throttle hit the kill switch and pull the clutch in whilst coasting to the side of the road, remove the spark plug and it should look chocolatey brown if the mixture is correct, if it is black on the tip you require smaller jets, if it is white the mixture is weak and you require larger jets, do not run with a weak mixture as this will damage your bike) 2) that is the purpose of the choke, when starting from cold the engine requires more petrol, the smell you are experiancing is because not all of the petrol is being burnt, once it is up to temperature the choke should be released to restore the fuel/air mixture to its correct ratio

Yamaha Pacifica? O.o i bought a nevada acoustic during my last afghan tour, anyone who played it had to sign it with a permanent marker, by the end of the tour there was no more room for signatures, then it got put in a box to get shipped back to blighty and i havent seen it since

cheers lads, unfortunately i didnt win the lottery, i won £10 on a scratchcard last week when i was out in town but i promptly managed to piss that up the wall, got this at a reduced price because i bought it off the old man, he was never likely to start riding it again, A) his leathers only fit me now and B ) he cant get his belly behind the tank lol The XJ600 has to go, im deploying overseas at the end of the month so im going to start tidying it up now and when i get back in may it will be on ebay, then i need to get the Mini sorted aswell, dont know why i bought the feckin thing tbh i really dont have the time or space for it, if anyone fancies buying my mini let me know .

i would assume number 1 goes to the number one cylinder (left hand side), number 2 goes to the number 2 cylinder, continue the pattern as appropriate

gave it a little test ride around the private roads at home, feels like it could be a bit of a pain to ride long distance though

Hey peeps! with my pending departure overseas it seems i have already spent my bonus, behold the glory of my latest toy, 17k on the clock and a few extra toys added on for good measure It was my dads bike about 7 years ago, he rode it for a while and parked it up under cover in the garage... where it stayed for 5 years until i decided it would be a respectable step up from the rattley battle-scarred XJ600, managed to dig it out from under the crap that has accumulated in the garage today and after installing a fresh battery and turning the fuel tap to the on position (the XJ has a vac operated tap, im not used to this!) it fired into life and ran perfectly, it is a H*nda after all love the sound of that D&D exhaust system... got a bit of bark to it
  21. Frame and wheels are now in Glenns' capable hands at Rolling Art in Swindon, should have them back next week, need to get the rest of the engine mounts off of the engine and get it shotblasted/painted up ready to drop back in, then the swingarm can go back on along with the wheels

rode back from oxford yesterday, the XJ wouldnt start under its own power so i had to jumpstart it off the kia, heated grips werent working because the connector had fallen off the battery, rode home 35 miles and was frozen, rode back to benson about 7-8 and had to stop every 10 miles and thaw my hands out over the engine, pretty sure the XJ was suffering from a bit of carb icing aswell as it was doing the hop-skip-jump coming into the services
  23. Hello and welcome to the asylum! If you choose to restrict your bike to 33bhp (and on an R6 thats probably a wise choice) the world is your oyster when it comes to insurance, gocompare will usually bring up the best deal, when i was 18 carol nash were rediculously overpriced, and now im 19 they still are... an R6 as a first bike however may not be the best move, my XJ600 was mental enough and thats a 23 year old 80hp rust-bucket!, plus if/when you throw it down the road think of the cost of replacing those plastics!. have fun and keep the rubber side down
  24. My bike is various shades of rust...
