  1. Why do you think the Classic is 20kg heavier than the Custom? Not a walk-away job at all... assuming it's just the one patch, that is. I highly doubt the mudguard is so bad that it's rotted through, but even if it is there are still plenty of other options...
  2. >however it went thru fuel like buggery last weekend on the M-way that is just a one off event. I get about 50mpg on m/ways. However, it's only the upper 20s in town, between 20-40mph limits... >The acceleration is frightening so maybe going down a notch would not matter that much. Ye great pansy!! It will only go as fast as you make it. Admitedly I do gun it a little myself, but I barely use the full capability of this gorgeous machine. I *can* do 0-60 in under 3 seconds... but I rarely do. Mostly I just wind the revs up slowly and amble along.
  3. Chain movement should be 15-20mm, although that is pretty tight so 20-25mm is recommended by most users. Front - 17t sprocket Rear - 3CV requires a 40t You could go up to 18t front and 38t rear (drop 2 links from the chain), but while this will drop your 80mph revs from 5130 to 4600, it will also rob you of outright acceleration... more so if you're carrying luggage/pillion/both. As always, the FJ Owners Club has these things in stock. OEM sprocket set of front and rear (17/40t) will cost you £32.98 plus p&p. They also have other sizes and types of sprocket.
  4. Stoopid double-posting Submit button...!
  5. I've seen Seasons 1-3. The Mrs is watching 4, but I cannot STAND fucking adverts, so I'm waiting until I can just get the whole season in one, watch every episode back to back and enjoy it that way. So NO spoilers!!! Wouldn't call it High Fantasy myself... That tends to be gods and dragons all over the place, whereas this is almost pure Low Fantasy. Even LotR was just about Mid. If you want even more violence and nudity/sex than this, Spartacus is certainly one to go for. True Blood too... In fact, most of the stuff the Mrs watches on her TellyBox thing, TBH!! I mainly just play computer games, so I know *nothing* about violence and nudity...
  6. Silver text on black background tends to be actively serving military vehicles only, here. So unless you're on a tactical deployment exercise or something, you would quite likely get pulled for those even if the cop knew nothing about bikes.
  7. What's that got to do with riding bikes??!!
  8. It has a couple of common faults and is a comparative dead cow, but as Cruisers go it's not all that bad.
  9. Known a few people go straight for the 125 test. None passed and most were surprised to find out how bad their riding was. IMO, it's usually better to just go for the lessons and then the full-on big bike.
  10. Of course... doesn't everything?
  11. Welcome to the world! If you think it's cool so far, prepare yourself... It gets EVEN BETTER!!!
  12. Made of these. Hence the rhyme with cheese.
  13. You can buy a solution (can't remember the name, Google it. Think Geek probably have it, too) that you paint on to material, such as gloves, which will give you the same capacitive dots as mentioned above.
  14. Also, posting your phone number on a public forum may not be advisable... GoogleBots can trawl such information.
  15. Get the 1100. The 650 will do it, but it will feel very sluggish and the lower weight makes it feel odd. The 1100 has the torque to pull that weight with less effort and is more spacious for both of you, especially if you get a backrest.
  16. Tomorrow, no, as it was actually yesterday and our braais tend to last all weekend. Next weekend is unlikely as it's our anniversary and we're spending it (and all the following week) fixing up her bike.
  17. Aw... I was there, man... ya left it too late (1:33am indeed!!). The Mrs already got in and made plans... and since these plans involve wood fire, steaks and boerewors, I can't really get around it.... and if you've ever had boerewors, you know I'd be a fool to try!! But some time soon, for sure!!
  18. Fantastic story and a great intro... Welcome to the world, Neil!!
  19. That's what they think, anyway... The points on their licences would disagree!! There are some good IAMs out there, so don't be too put off. Just apply some common sense at the same time.
  20. "Take what is useful and discard the rest". I find this being said a lot about IAM courses - They teach some good stuff... but some of it is useless bollocks that does more harm than good. There are some members who are great, both as riders and as people. They tend to be the kind who take only what is useful. Unfortunately, most IAMs I've met are elitist wankers, who think holding an IAM pass is all about going as fast as you can and riding like a fucking dickhead. Most had 6 points or more on their licence and there seemed to be at least one accident every time they went out for an organised ride. The worst of them I ever knew spent an hour trying to get his knee down on a roundabout, instead of conducting my DAS course like I'd paid him to!! I also had one IAM twat seriously cut me up, back when I was new to my Club at the time. He actually clipped my right mirror because he was "high speed passing" that close to me. By contrast, I've only ever heard good things said about BikeSafe days and the ROSPA members have a better rep. But before you start anything advanced, you'll need a firm grounding in the basics and riding experience, if for no other reason than knowing what is useful when you're taught it. A bigger bike would definitely be an advantage, but even then get a decent amount of riding time in on that before you look to the advanced side. Meanwhile, something you can do to improve your riding right now is read. Specifically, 'Roadcraft: The Police Riders Handbook' and perhaps also A Twist Of The Wrist (vols I and II). I personally didn't like the latter as it seemed too full-on racetrack riding science from the outset, but Roadcraft regularly gets a read from me!!
  21. Does the noise increase in pitch the faster you go, while dropping as you slow down? Does your bike sound like a spaceship? If so, then that is perfectly normal. All 650 Drags do that. If not, then you're back to getting it on the jack and running it. Keeping the revs steady and then increasing incrementally may be the best approach. Having someone assist would be good - Maybe one of us could help, if anyone is nearby you?
  22. Potentially... depends how early. I work late hours, y'see. What'cha aiming for?
  23. By contrast - The third party in my claim didn't give a fuck *how* many experts I could summon. Glasses Guide said X, so I was getting X. Eventually they relented and found the cheapest examples of those currently for sale, along with some vaguely similar (and much cheaper) bikes, took the average, rounded down and offered that. Do NOT let them fuck you over. Get an agreed value beforehand.
  24. Over 125cc, I generally won't trust a split-link chain. Been present when one split on a 600 Divvy, as the rider was banked over on a roundabout - Chain went flying out from the underside of the bike and across the road, narrowly missing the outside rider. The Divvy rider was very lucky to stand the bike up and slow to a halt, as she almost decked into a lowside from sudden loss of drive power!!
