sorn advise
Ooh, feck.... Personally, I'd play dumb and once it's ready just tax it as if nothing was amiss. The DVLA lose records all the time anyway. Mayhap they have lost yours.

Yamaha WR 125R Speed cable. Where to get?
Depends - Your profile is blank, so we don't know where you are to begin with. Generally, any parts shop should be able to get what you want. Many will ship internationally, but it will cost some.

Yeah, they try and filter!!

Soup It Up ?
Define cheap. Also, what kind of mods are you looking for? Engine performance? Grunt? Speed? Handling? Practical? Cosmetic? I'd repaint it in Olive Green/Olive Drab, whack some panniers on the back, add a couple of small fuel cans and likely a rifle carrier. Perhaps add in a radio system, a screen, some fancy gizmos and so on... It's a very open question for a very blank canvas!!

location of frame number on xvs
I'm even feeling generous, so Click Here to see a screengrab from the 650 manual.

Look in the owners manual or the service manuals. Both are available online for free. Several links around on the forum.

As a biker, you're probably a better driver for it.

XVS650 - Wheres The Oil?
1/. Remove the oil filler cap on top of the sump, left side. 2/. Remove sump plug. 3/. Allow to drain completely. 4/. Stand bike upright for a couple of minutes just to check it has all drained. 5/. Leave drain pan in place while you change out the oil filter. Never had any problems.

What are they called and where can I buy them?!
Complete novice - Yes. Relative novice.... Not so bad. I did mine and although it was a bit fiddly, I had no real problems. If you have changed your own oil, filters, plugs, brakes, taken the tank off and little bits like that, then you probably have enough smarts and sensibility to manage this easy enough. But get a manual, just to be safe. I still refer to mine, to make sure I don't miss the silly little things!!

Winter Gloves
Heated grips are comparatively crap, TBH. I find that if it's cold enough for those then the rest of you will freeze, while only your palms stay toasty. Even the backs of your hands will feel it! Last time I bothered using mine, the standing temperature was -7°C. Add in 80mph wind chill and they were fecking useless! If you're riding in proper cold, heated and/or layered clothing is a far better option. I have some Weisse winter gloves. Not sure what size. However, while they are probably only an XL, my Hein Gericke ones are XXXL. It seems trying them on is about the only realistic way of finding the best fit. That said, my Weisse ones are 100% waterproof and do keep a decent amount of cold at bay. I'm on a bike with no fairing whatsoever, as well!

Carb Manifolds? Whatever they are, they should be available from any parts shop that stocks Yamaha parts.

I want one of these please
I *do* know how powerful it is... that's why I want one. Among other things, I also want a shotgun and a 4x4 with an auto-loader rocket launcher turret mounted on the back... I'm not liable to get any of them, though. Still want.....

Insurance, pay in lieu
Nope. It is a legal requirement to swap insurance details. The exchange does not imply liability in the slightest.

I want one of these: Real life lightsaber

won't start
No. Rude boy. No introduction. Walks in bleating and expects hearty response. Go buy it, or take the time to make friends here first and actually contribute. Failing that, find it yourself. It's online and free in many places - I have one myself, but I won't tell you where to look. Not if you're just going to be rude about it.

How to clean chain on XV250S
Interesting box-thing, there.... Looks like it's made of Meccano! One problem I'd have with that, is that there's no specified maximum weight. Doesn't mention anything about locking in lift/lower position either. I'm not wholly convinced yet...

BEST ROADS TO RIDE
Favourites? A4074 from Reading, where I live, out to Fox's Diner (now called H's Cafe, I believe). From there - Pick a road. Nice, easy twisties to run on a warm summer day. Insane at night. Many of the 50 limits can be ridden as fast as 130 (if your bike goes that fast), but if you don't feel the need it's still a great area. The road from Tintagel to Boscastle. Twisty twisty and lots of blind corners, culminating in a fast downhill with a tight surprise hairpin at the bottom as you enter Boscastle. Do this on a bike with a wide turning circle and then try going back up on the inside of the hairpin - See if you can keep it within the lines!!

Fuel vent tube leak on v star 650
Seafoam??!! WTF is that? Have you tried simply opening the carbs up and cleaning them out?

Oh for sure, there are good ones out there... Just not enough to outweigh the bad.

bar grips
I mean, do you have to have '87 FZ600 ones, or will a fitting generic aftermarket set be acceptable?
-
Oil
This may also just be your riding style - Either you're being very heavy and riding the powerband a lot, or just doing a lot of town miles.

Advice for 1st Bike
Congratulations chap!!! Hope you enjoy many years of decent riding. Now, do me two favours... 1/. Read and study the Roadcraft book - The police riders' handbook. 2/. Once you have a couple of years riding, look into an Advanced Riders course.

bar grips
Err.... in a word, No. Couldn't find any myself. You tried the PartFinder sites? Would any old ones be OK, so long as they fit?
