  1. The point is to get them taken away from the cunt that currently has them, and into a rescue home where someone lovely like me will give them a good home, good food, good training, good exercise and an all-round very good life. I'd volunteer myself, but we already have three and there's no more room on the bed/sofa/back seat.
  2. Why do people lack pragmatism? Sacrifice a bad driver from the day before and leave the poor goat alone!! Besides, if you insist on being a backward, barbaric savage, then at least eat the slaughtered goat yourself, rather than leaving it for non-existent deities!! Because the front dives down too much under braking, throwing the rider over the bars. Known design flaw...
  3. You can get little telescopic engine bay inspection mirrors for a couple of quid - Sit on the bike yourself and then just stick this rod with a small 2.5" mirror down next to the window at a slight angle - Easy as pie. You learn a few things as you get older!
  4. In some ways, you're lucky. I feel younger than I am and look even younger than that... more so if I shave. Had a woman at work telling me how I'd find out what a great benefit somethingorother was when I got to her age... She didn't realise I'm almost a decade her senior!!
  5. No point - Pretty girl thinks I look like Thor, then far as I'm concerned I'm the god of thunder, baby!!!
  6. No, she's the one who thinks I look like a young James Hetfield from Metalica... that's the other one I get with curious frequency, these days. Thor-Girl is actually the really hot petite girl, who herself looks like a cross between Lara Croft (from the games, not the Angelina films), and Catpiss Cleverspleen from Hunger Games....
  7. It was more complimentary when the girl at work thought I looked like the handsome guy that plays Thor in the new movies!!
  8. >the whole front of the bike crashes down quite hard with a loud bang/clang Jack front of bike up, check fork oil and springs. Jack front of bike up, check fork integrity. Also look into the preload settings. >he reckoned it was steering head bearings that needed doing. Jack front of bike up, check steering. Any notched points would indicate headstock bearings. Most of this requires getting the front wheel up, in fact. The goos news is that it's relatively easy to get the front fairing off and work on this stuff.
  9. People keep telling me I look like this guy...
  10. Yes, you can get a double-bubble. It's sort-of square and kinda odd. There is also a touring screen with higher and more curved lip. However, the screen is shaped as it is so you can get your face down against the clocks and nail it, which also helps keep the wind and rain off your lid... not that I've tried, heh heh!! Carbs: http://www.fj1200.info/mixture_screws.htm
  11. Backfiring and popping could be a sign of a hole in the exhaust, or possibly fuel mixture is off...? Get the tank off and check the carbs are balanced. It's piss-easy on an FJ!!
  12. I drive a BIG-ass Mercedes and recently went driving in both a Supra Mk III and a 1968 Mustang GT California Special, all of which have ridiculously long bonnets... In each case, I can't say it was a problem for me. Conversely, a number of people have pulled out on me when I'm going round a roundabout and these are big, loud cars that you can see coming a fecking mile off. I also had someone side-swipe me in the company van on Wednesday, when they were right alongside and level with me. This thing is MASSIVE, so there's no way they couldn't see unless they were staring at their crotch... although given who I work for, it may have been an intentional attack. So yeah, it's not the cars, it's the dumbfuck drivers not looking... but weirdly enough, I have far fewer problems of this nature while riding the bike. Maybe I'm just going too fast for the trouble to catch me!!
  13. Leather is a sponge. It's great for protection against sliding down the road, but will only keep a light drizzle off you and then only for a short while. Best thing is an actual waterproof all-in-one suit. Get a couple of cheap ones in the Aldi/Lidl annual sale, since they're only a fiver a go and cheap enough to replace every year... which used to be my own plan, except neither of mine have failed in the 9 years since I actually bought them!!!
  14. I know. It's my choice, but I do find I get more notice as a lightless void, especially in sunny weather when everything else on the road is shiny.
  15. Or left thumb, in the case of those who own later models... I actually tend not to bother with headlight in the daytime any more - Too many cars have their on, if not set to fog and high beam, already. I find people underestimate my speed when they see the light, whereas no light and moving appropriately within the lane gets me noticed far more.
  16. Find the PO and shoot them!! Those things are only meant to go up to about 10ft/lb max - just enough to crush the crush washer, but many owners have overtightened and stripped the threads. The common practice of putting a few drops of engine oil on the plug threads is what throws the torque settings off and so people go higher than they should. Apparently teflon string is a favoured option for fixing into damaged threads. If you want to use a helicoil, the thread size is 14 x 1.5 Failing that, you could fit a new sump pan...
  17. SOMEBODY PIN BIPPO'S POST!!! Seriously, very good stuff in there. You have bar risers fitted don't you, Dutch? How long are those flippin' legs, then? I've got 33 inches and they still hang by the heels.

    M25

Good idea. That way it'll take even longer for your stuff to be delivered... kiss goodbye to the idea of food in the shops being fresh! What, where all the nails and stones and bike-killing crap gathers? No, down Lane 3, from J8 round towards 5. I could have gone faster, but I didn't trust the BMW/Audi types in front to stay in their lanes!
  19. Can't say I've noticed it being a problem on the FJ, myself... Stretch the knees out, maybe, but never the backside...
  20. Clarky is pretty cool once you realise that it's mostly just an act, a TV persona. He's also been spotted several times riding bikes around Chipping Campden near his home...

Traffic? What traffic? This isn't the M4, you know... I've done 140mph on the M25 at about 6pm, before... No idea what you Northern jessies are whining about!!
  22. Read this, specifically concerning blue lights but also summarises vehicle light rules in general: http://www.ukemergency.co.uk/blue-light-use/
  23. Both of mine would spring back in. I would pull and then twist the choke grip, which usually held it in place long enough to get the bike warm.
  24. Moon-miles are not unheard of - Well-maintained FJs will go round the clock twice with relative ease... 50k is just about broken in!!
