  1. I mean it, DO NOT underestimate Finnerez on his dt, ok on an open road you may toast him. But you will be lured into its web of country roads full of blind apex bends and he is GONE. That thing changes direction like a housefly, you will be humbled. You have been warned
  2. So you can change it from the outside, without splitting the cases? You have to strip out the gearbox on the 2 smokes.
  3. I would wait on the cdi. With the way Yamaha wire their bikes the cdi can't really be hurt by chomping wires unless your really unlucky. Also, Cdi's rarely if ever do intermittent. Connections do intermittent, fuses, repairs etc Personally and after my own experience of my old 350 being pinched there could be internal damage. Thieving fuckers wont leave a good field bike to get taken by somebody else. They will have left it for dead. You need to pull the barrel and check the big metal bits are ok after basically being thrashed mercilessly. There could be broken rings or piston damage, there was on my lc. Certainly upper cylinder damage can make the bike run like that. It may well be fine but its certainly worth checking for the price of a head gasket. Certainly less than a cdi and far more likely.
  4. Back, headwind all the way down the bloody A1, fuelled at Doncaster thinking cruising I can scratch 100miles to a tank so do it in one, pah the headwind made it more like 85, I found that out as I passed Leicester forest services. So bit of a head scratch for fuel. Weather decided my bike needed cleaning 30 miles from home. Pissed it down from just north of Leicester. Good weekend spoiled by the complete lack of organisation, Finnerez and I were even considering moving on on the Saturday if tommy had stayed away, seriously on Friday it was deserted there was the 2 of us in the pub that closed at 10. Because nobody had confirmed anything happening with the landlord, so he didn't lay on any staff. It came up more than once that maybe we should go with the fizzy rally, hell we could marshal the rideout for em, ok try to. Or do something a little further south, Stafford maybe?
  5. You better be. Im here waiting to take the piss.
  6. And...... Dont see the problem If you want to meet up further south.
  7. Thanks everybody, and finn i think. Mildly terrifying for me and the missus but my parents trusted me..... hmmm. I know how that went (but the wife doesent). So i have to put the same faith in her. She deff has the bug.
  8. You are all officially warned, CBT dispatched with a glowing report from the instructor siting words like level headed, good instincts, complemented on her riding kit. Insurance finally came via bikesure, 270quid. Bare bones 3PO policy but when they value the bike at 400quid and want a 500 quid excess on tpft for an extra 150 quid seems little point. Anyho, another lady biker is on the road.
  9. Clutch drag would be my first guess. Check the clutch is adjusted properly. The clutch drag will keep load on the gears on the down shift holding them in place. Do the gears select ok with the motor turned off.
  10. Slippery slope. You will be looking for a cat c/d r6 and a trailer soon.
  11. Long old meandering thread with no real direction. Jez, post something about yourself in the intro and start your own fresh thread, posts like this rarely produce results. Topic locked.
  12. Unlucky. This weekend is MINE. Missus wont mess with it. 51 weeks of the year i get put foreward to help other folk out. Not this one. They can go F.... Havent missed one yet.
  13. We might be a trek but blachat could be a possible, or jimmy their both solid bike nuts the wrong side of the wall :).

Had a mk2 and a mk 3 myself as well as metro's fiesta's. All the points were easy. The A series even more so with a keyed dissy drive. You could do it on the bench. My dt's on the other hand. Setting and adjusting through a gap you can only fit 2 fingers into and stripping off the sidecase, gear lever and then pulling the flywheel off. (Easy now with hub centre pullers) to change them, not to mention the condenser. The bigger villan if you ask me. I used to move them so they were fitted in pairs outside of the generator so if (ha ha) when it failed it was easy to change.
  15. Oops. Ok. I thought they were 4 speed like the yb. Its got that 2 speed box with a high low option. Top whack IS listed as 35mph but with an experienced pilot wheelies are not a problem apparently. As to sprockets changing the rear needs more teeth and affects the wheel ratio. 14:32 2.15 to 1 14:25 1.8 to 1 Thats a 17% hike. Or around 7mph if your engine can cope with the gap between gears.
  16. Sorry people but 35mph from an eighty? It doesent need modifying it needs fixing. Something is off, that bike should be good for 50mph.

Quick and easy to remove and adjust. Hmmm. Agree to differ there.
  18. New guy jitters as above. I have had my daughter repeatedly exasperated because she has co ordination issues too. Says its the bike. Then i ride off with no issues. Cannot use the throttle and the font brake. Cannot pull away ( on level) without clutch. Dont know what gear. All the same questions and arguments as well as a few more i asked and more when i got my first bike 30years ago. And blips just for posing
  19. LOL, nope no kicking at all, just resistance values from the coils. Well you could try measuring the voltage generated when you kick it but it wont tell you much. I have a TDR service manual, not digging round in the garage now but I will pop the values up tomorrow. Only difference between the TZR and the TDR engines is first gear ratio and the cdi map. Oh, stop looking for a sidestand switch, there isn't one. No link to neutral either. Your bike is from the days we were expected to have the intelligence to put the stand up without help.

    Hell's bells..!

I have had my bike 'weighing over a ton' on occasion with the daughter 16 yr old on the back, in boots, jacket, gloves etc and she is a VERY good pillion. If that lad is as good as my daughter you can relax and ride, but those speeds, phwew.
  21. Replacement. You wont or very unlikely to find anybody willing to swap their good one either. There could be a wiring issue there so you got to suck this one up. The pv wont stop the bike running. You can unplug it and the bike wont care. There are companies selling units on a service exchange basis. So your not stuck.
  22. That's the thing, its a 2 stroke, even with really really worn rings a 50 will run, hell without rings they will run. Most of its compression in such a little piston comes from piston speed. A lot of the big bores only use 1 ring. Unless these is a hole in it the compression is not the issue, same with the bottom end. Unless there is physical damage it will run, granted badly. Fuel should be drawn in. If you have changed the crank seals and the top end even half way properly then with fuel in it and the spark properly timed it should run, even backwards quite happily. Are you kicking it or using the starter, if using the starter is the battery up to the job. Power drill with a socket on the end of the flywheel nut starts most things LOL. You don't say where you are in your profile, maybe one of us are near enough to help for a brew.
  23. Nope, same as Tommy, error 404 for me too. I'm not jealous....... really I'm not...... no, I told you I'm NOT!.
  24. What condition was the original piston/bore in? Did you see any reason for the lack of power. The new top end will have the compression to run the engine, even the complete garbage Chinese 25quid knock offs run for a while. 40psi will wet the plug, by generating 40psi it IS pulling air into the engine and should be wetting the plug. Quite drastically with such a lack of air it wont atomise cleanly. I think yo have a fuel issue, maybe the vacuum tap diapram has perished, fuel pump, if it has one? Tank breather? That's my feel from what you have said. I'm going with fuel.
