  1. Yep no trouble, the ig system generates its own electric.
  2. Huh, the dickheads in my village try and overtake trucks on 50cc scoots, if any of them live long enough to ride a 125 i can't see em being afraid of overtaking anything.
  3. Dirty plugs is a bit of an arse to nail down. Obviously chuck the current (get it) plug and double check the gap on the new one. Be certain you are using good quality oil and fuel and confirm the spark is nice and bright. Generally its a rich mix and or a weak spark that will foul the plugs so look along those lines. When was it decoked last, if the cyl has coked up from chugging around Japan's city streets that will do it too. Sorry no holy grail fix but something for you to go at though. Welcome along by the way, there are several proper DT nuts on here, the Lanza is basically a bored and stroked DT125 so baring the obvious diferences its pretty much the same as the 125.
  4. CBD your time WILL come, i can wait.
  5. Just the video made me dissy. If you put a gun to my head i'd prob take the bullet. Mate of mine who's a scaffolder would have no bother. HIghest he's been is 500ft in Canary Warf, heights don't bother him at all. As far as he's concerned anything over 15-20ft will kill you so why worry if its 50 or 500. I think he's nuts.
  6. The forks may be the same size but i doubt the wheel is the same diameter or has the same spindle size. Given the options the head bearings are easy compared to getting spacers made and changing wheel bearings. What is the breaking on the JAWA's front. Disck/drum no matter the mounts/antirotation lugs will be different. Best be swap the front from an xj wholesale.
  7. Don't panic on persuading the peoples transport to take you up to the squires, diesels are fine too. BWJ was there on his Fazer 1000 and pinni, er pling, er Mervin was there on his 600 .
  8. Chrome ain't gonna work on a 30 year old DT.
  9. Got it, TDR250 thats parked in my garage. Wouldn't mind a ropey one i could ride all year but i think i'd find myself single if i suggested that.
  10. Crikey that front pipe's a monster, is that the 'big one' with a paint job?

    My Yams....

Nearly the youngest started puking all over the place over the weekend so thoughts of MOT got posponed as the look from the missus at my suggestion of clearing off for the afternoon would have turned medusa to stone.
  12. Yea it is mate, got the self same thing on my DT. If the seal leaks try turning it round.
  13. They all use a variation of the Mikuni VM24 carb, be it bigger or smaller, newer older and the float height is 21mm. Bit more info, DT175 A/B Mikuni VM24ss 160 main, 5G4 jet needle Clip 3rd groove from top Pilot air screw 1 3/4 turns out Float height 21mm +/- 1.0mm Idle speed 1300-1400rpm
  14. Nothings impossible, if i was going to do it i would look at using the XJ's tripple clamps too. Much as the forks are the same diameter the spacing will most likely be different together with the spindle etc. Both bikes use conventional bars so i'd swap the lot from a divvy or something like. Do the back wheel as well and only a real jawa fan would know. Make sure you buy the lot from a breaker as a lump its much cheaper to buy a complete front end.
  15. Hmmm, just had a really stupid thought. Does the IT share cdi's or does it have one that lets the motor spin with maybe more advance to really get her moving with the bigger carb cos the IT has some 30 oddmm monster. The only other real differences between our bikes is that airbox yours is carrying. I have got a straight stock 175 barrel and head. Same carb, albeit jetted different. Just your comment on the revs made me think, surely their would be a limiter of some sort in there to hold the revs back with the red line being at 8ooo rpm, so she'd stop revving at maybe 9. I know someone who might know i'll send him an e-mail.
  16. She's a bit of a halfbreed, 1980 bike, but the engine is unknown ( numbers never been stamped ). When i got the bike in the days of steam we had to run the extra red wire to the cdi to make it work. Otherwise she would only rev to about 5 thou.
  17. Hold on Paul it might not be the case, mine's a 7 wire don't forget.
  18. Aint broke don't fix it 65/70 is good for a DT. By all means pull it to bits if you want but i doubt you will get any more ooomph, maybe less as the bike could be in the sweet spot before the bore finally wears out. One point to remember though, these engines rarely get past around 15000 without work, 21000 on the original pot is unlikely. Not impossible, not that common either. Unless he has owned it from new, i'd make my own decision on the top end. Keep your money in your pocket till it needs it, you will know soon enough .
  19. Old oil, coolant, brake fluid, bad fuel. All the nasty crap that you never have somewhere to put. It all goes in there and once it gets over half full i take it to the tip next time i go and pour it in the old oil bin.
  20. Ok the DT now a useable classic again rather than a siezed up badly running mess: Followed by the TDR, soon to have its engine removed And a shot of them both, you can see a lot of very similar parts when they are lined up together, more evolution of a proven concept rather than new stuff?
  21. Ok heres mine, and it does need a tidy up. And before the smart comments start the mobility scooter belongs to the lady that lives across from me, she's in her 90's bless her and i'm keeping it safe while her garage is converted so she can get in and out on it safely.

    Better MPG.

Bet you wish it was downhill to the van too eh?

    Better MPG.

Ha ha ha ha ha, Cough (clearing throat) Told him not to tempt fate,
  24. You have done something to the carb, there just wouldn't be enough fuel in the system with the slide shut to allow it to run at 4000rpm for more than a very short time. Is the cable right, some have a self adjuster in them that can play silly buggers, is the slide in right. I've got it in the wrong way round before that has the revs climbing faster than a home sick angel. My money is on a carb issue, where is the idle adjuster set? Does the throttle slide seat all the way down, assume nothing you may have a cable thats a little short? Any of these are possible, just some options for you...
