    Breaks

Needed bleeding. How come? There have been a few of these lately. Is everthing free. The caliper pins can stick. The piston can also stick/sieze, master cyl seals can fail. Reducing brake efficientcy. Whats the problem?
  2. Be real careful with your choice of tyres, that sw arm has limited mud room and will stop you. I have had to stop more than an annoying amount of time on trails to clear the crap out. Ended up running a stock block pattern rear with a full knobbly on the front and just kept the rear spinning for the grip, lot of fun.
  3. So long as they don't link up to copyright content, like manuals and such. Your ok.
  4. You need to use a host like photobucket, then use the image from there after resizing.
  5. Can you swap the coils and leads front to back. See if the proplem moves too.

    05 R1 No crank

Magic porridge gone cold, if you had said hello in the new members area I could have kept it warm.
  7. Feels good fixing it yourself though eh?
  8. Ok, thats moving towards electrical. Plugs done in febuary, that's good but you really should check them with symptoms like you describe. Make sure the plugs are clean, then when you refit them (new is better or at least swap their positions) make sure the plug caps are watertight having a good seal. Then give it a zap with wd40 around the plugs.
  9. That's the number, don't know what it means myself but there are several hardcore DT250 nuts here who will tell you which it is from just a picture, hint....
  10. Spend as long describing yourself in the new members area as you did the problem and you will get plenty of replies. Haven't the slightest idea myself, bikes I ride don't have led displays. Plenty on here that do though and if you say hi properly I'm sure you will get help.
  11. OMG you didn't buy one of THOSE did you..? Fkin ace first bike..
  12. Your air filter cleaned/replaced when? Plugs checked?
  13. Couple of questions.. Has it always done it? Do you drive a car a lot. Esp modern diesels? Are you bigger than average?
  14. Which connector and where? Could help others with similar issues.

Anything like that Las, when they are ordering a part, most of the time they are ordering it from Fowlers of Bristol, yes I'm serious. Don't bother with the middle men just go to Fowlers. Its unusual when they have to order something. Remember I own a rare bike when I say that.
  17. I would reccomend starting at the ig switch. The kill circuit is fine as it bumps. As is the engine electrics. If NOTHING electrical works that is one of the check points. A dt doesent use anything from the battery to run the engine. Its a permanant magnet genny and makes its own power for the cdi. Litteraly completely separate circuits.

So is the TDR a past love or ambition?

    Traded in XJ6

I know what id sooner ride to squires. I can feel the neck ache and knees already just thinking about a 675. Sooner have Malc's vmax. Thats me though. Enjoy.
  20. Def fowlers for anything important. Their delivery is epic too. Last lot of stuff i ordered when the TDR blew arrived befor 9 the next day.
  21. Its just a pet hate of mine, yours wasn't a biggy as you have hardly got your answer and cleared off. I think an introduction should be just that, 'Hi I'm Bob from the midlands, like customs good with the spanners, just got myself an xs' type of thing.
  22. Nope, the actual power changes buy very little. How it makes its power changes, the later bike is peaky, has less lower power and has to be kept on the pipe more with hills and such. Its also worse on fuel. Yours will have much better low to mid rpm manners but run off the pipe towards the redline. Think, MX and trials. Although in truth the differences are not all that remarkable. Certainly not worth swapping the airbox assembly. You will make up for any loss with a good exhaust. The best blend is actually the older cdi/mag on the newer bike. And the golden rule of DTs DO NOT RIDE THEM AT THE REDLINE, on modern fuel THEY WILL hole a piston. Blast it to the redline for an overtake or a bit of red mist but not sustained.
  23. You have a 78/79 on a 1980 plate. Your frame number will be between 2K4-000101 the 2k4, 2k4-010101 the 2j2 or 2k4-020101, the 4j4. The later 1980 4j4 has the air filter on the left and the oil tank/battery on the rhs. You should probably have a 7 wire cdi too. With an air filter in it with the 160 it wont run, I would guess its someone doing some bad garage tuning. See if you can spot the id code on the jet needle. If its 4j13 you only need swap out the main jet for the correct one. Even so the bodies are pretty much the same, change the jet needle and the main and your 99% there. Easy fixed.
  24. If you had 4 grand as an option with the puddle hopper your hardly scraping the bottom. There are masses of really good bikes out there for around 2k. From every marque and style too. There is just so much more in the motorcycle world. Chaining yourself to nice shiny dealer stuff is a crippling shame if you ask me. Look wider, check out what people really ride, not the magazines, you should see the diversity just in the YOC bikes at squires. Most are sub 2k, 10-15 year old (and a lot more) different cc, 2 st, 4 st, but they all make you smile.
