  1. Ok, Drewps you have the hardest time with free weekends, give us a date to work with. I'm pretty open i always keep a few days and worst case i could always, (cough), need a (cough), few days off.
  2. That's the thing, now the tricky part. When and where, some folk are happy to travel, Jimmy and Drewpy as an obvious ex, others not so much eh Kev and how far north or south. I know things get killed by committee but lets be honest. There will be maybe 10 of us tops. What are the favourite spots, that are reasonable travel. Ill start of with the peak district, i like it and was there last weekend at the Snake Inn wish Squires did food like theirs.
  3. Ok then, to take this one step further. Are there any bike pubs out there that allow camping on/adjacent to their grounds that are in area's worth a ride. I know of 2 site's in North cornwall that will let you camp all you like (single sex groups etc) for a few quid. Bit of a trek for that one although i want to do at least one in the summer, always wanted to ride to lands end. Soft i know but hey. There must be plenty more. There are a couple in Northants but its been a long time since i used them, roads are nothing special either. Further east is better but that's Lincolnshire, they got a serious hard on for anti speed policing.
  4. Have you opened the engine up. Checked things like piston gaps and bore wear. 50s live a hard life and wear badly due to neglect when they get to rat status. Cannot see fuel starvation from worn float needle, bad plug gap, points or condenser (unless its electronic) would be my first call.
  5. Nope, leave the carb. How much restoring have you done, new everything or a clean and tidy. New bore and piston? coil, plugs, wiring etc etc. Have you had the carb apart, cleaned inside. We cannot see what you can, can you fill out the picture a little, bogging down could be any number of things, least of all float height.
  6. Nowhere near long enough for the xt, still looking for stand options for the daughters bloody Aprilia, still leaning against walls and using the paddock stand till we use it more when it warms a bit. Now tried a couple of aftermarket units that either bend or are too short.
  7. One of those cursed by the fools. The science works, the problem is the fact its a 2L 4 banger that could have been from a 4 door saloon. If it had been a flat 4 or even a v 4 (nice and compact) with more go than any other period 2L i bet the reception would have been very different.
  8. Sniffing too much 2 stroke John..
  9. Nope. It was good with the v8. 6pot. Cmon. Really.
  10. They changed the single carriageway speed limit to 50 for trucks nationwide ages ago. I very much doubt any truck will be anything other than going as fast as they dare/can. When will people realise we are always. Either late or 3 parts lost due to others, normally you the customers most of the time. We are not holding people up on purpose. If my truck could go as fast as the cars how fast do you think id be going.
  11. I think the yellow is pretty good. Shame that decal doesn't have a speedblocks touch to it somehow.
  12. Amen to that. Hmm, have been to a couple of these, one, at Jodrell bank was the wettest rally i have ever attended bar none. It rained, that has to be an understatement of biblical proportion. It just didn't stop from starting off to when i got home, proper pissing it down too. If your calling the food at squires you better prepare for the catering at a full rally lol. Afterwards a pot noodle will seem like haute cuisine. Oddly, i can not actually recall what i have eaten at a bike rally. Probably for the best.
  13. I think the aircooled rally has to be worth a look. Its more yamaha centred too.

    Bike values...

Well, having ridden a few now its never going to rival anything sports in the cornering stakes its good enough. Don't forget its a 140hp motorcycle that is only geared for 120 or so. Its a slow in blast out type of thing. They are a bike you have to ride though, just like the TDR. Go easy and not tell it who's boss any your gonna hurt. I have had the RD, before they were cool. Had the TDR but still have the Max box to tick although..... Wifey said this morning and i quote, " If you wait a bit there is no reason not to have BOTH", knew i married her for a reason That may be skewed by the fact the value of the TDR is now 3 times what i paid for it....
  17. If you can keep a 924 on the road a ybr wont phase you much, welcome in.

    Bike values...

Yeah i know but if you ever rode one, it goes like a 2 stroke, a big monster stroker. Up to 6k ok, moving nicely then you hear a buzz and wham!!! wtf happened, it goes from 40 to 140hp. Believe me, it never gets old, i have ridden 3 now. Then obviously you have the equally perilous task of stopping and turning the bstd.

    Bike values...

Ok, i was bored. I'm half looking for a Vmax, not all that hard but still looking. Oddly, proper utter shite (normally non full power) is 2-3k and 5k mile minters are around 5. Go figure? Anyway i got to wondering , (because the wife said i can't have both, but my leg issues are getting worse and highway pegs are getting a very attractive prospect) just how daft prices are for mine. OMG, garbage is up for around 3, a uk bike is up for 7, that's SEVEN grand. And its got issues, chief amongst them its the truly horrid and globally hated harlequin paint job. Look, the cheeky sod, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-TDR250-Classic-Bike/263448113722?hash=item3d56bb323a:g:22gAAOSwoBlaYmJR
  21. You will still need most of the wiring, what people do is hide it effectively. You will still need main and dipped beam, a main beam indicator, a neutral light. The brake light that needs to operate from both brakes as well as light in the spedo and some kind of secure ignition system so you can go into the pub you rode to for a pint.. All in 95% of whats there.
  22. Either it did and he is still deliriously happy and forgot to say thanks, or it didn't and he cant be arsed..
  23. You know one day i WILL put one of those engines in the dt.
  24. I had the same working on the wife's car changing an alternator. Twisting things 3 ways from Sunday for over an hour because a bolt was just too long to come out. Was on the point of using the electric spanner when i had a moment, last chance and all. That's when i noticed the slot cut into the alternator mount. Rotate the alternator slightly and slide left. Easy....... 'cough cough'
