  1. The engine is basically DT and really didn't change much till 76/77 so pretty much all the service items like pistons bearings seals etc are available easily. Likewise the rolling stock is pretty much DT. Some little differences but in the main again its DT. Tank and panels vary. A very doable resto so long as the bike is complete, its stuff like engine panels, bigger bits that make life tricky.
  2. This is definitely a 'ain't broke don't fix it' moment. Yamaha pumps are incredibly reliable and providing you dont run out of oil (get that one in early) i would forget it exists.
  3. One important point to remember with LED lights. If you have coloured lenses like your DT get WHITE led lamps. If you get red then the red lense actually reduces the output of the unit as it actually filters the red light from the led's. Makes a surprising difference.
  4. Ouch, wasn't the bike's fault t'was mine. Least i rode there, nah na nahh nah na
  5. Well sounds like were all good. That ride out was a blast, just bikers dicking about in a relaxed and friendly way on bikes. Especially the hooning around on the trip back to squires eh blackhat... The real blow was Vez, you kicked it all off and couldnt get there. Whats up mate? Thought you might beg some transport to call in for a pint or something. You really missed out there. And cardboarddave, finally on the trip home i didn't have those headlights of yours in the mirror. Hows about a little vote here, if we announce just WHAT he did in open forum the 125 brigade will never leave him alone, he he he. I vote we out him
  6. Litterally just got back and had to have the spanners out on the way. Question, What is THE most important bulb on my bike? Yep, the oil level light. Only mine was an oil level dark. And i hadn't noticed. I noticed when she nipped up (thankfully i stopped only 500yrds from a BP). So a chug of oil in the fueltank the rest in the oil tank, she started and I let her tick over while i bled the pump on the side of the A5. Rode a few mile nice and gentle and it LOOKS like i have got away with it. Nice and smokey I may have the top off and have a lookie see over the winter. Otherwise apart from getting soaked it was good run back. A and B roads this time, screw the motorway. Roll on YOC on tour 2011
  7. At least he'll be easy to spot. He'll be the one walking round like John Wayne . I've got the same type of seat and i'll be glad to get off at half the distance he's doing.
  8. How about 80 odd miles from 10 litres, nearer 60 if you really spank it. 90 if you ride like a nun. Thats a TDR 250 for you, progress eh? 2gallon tank anybody.... yep full to res 2 gallons I have actually got to plan my fuel stops as i've only got about 10mile tops on reserve and on the motorway that could be dicy. I have seen several photo's of TDR's that are touring with fuel cans as part of the luggeage, i kid you not.
  9. Nope a village between Northampton and Banbury.
  10. 130 odd miles of arse numbing motorway is hardly senic.
  11. Cheeky, i know where i'm going I gotta stop for fuel twice at least so i'm ok for the rideout, google say's 2hrs 10 so i figure around two and a half with fuel stops at worst.
  12. Dunno, i can do M1 or A1, or take a chance on the A roads and see what happens. Either way i'll be away by 8am so should be there around 10/11, i'll be on my third tank of Gas for the ride out .
  13. Surely if you own both vehicles then its not really an issue. Bar the paper exercise. A check by the plod would show the engine was for a bike you own so as far as they are concerned, no interest.
  14. No figured a quick check over on the lawn was better than finding out something critical is missing/buggerd 150 miles from home.... Going up sat morning.....
  15. No figured a quick check over on the lawn was better than finding out something critical is missing/buggerd 150 miles from home....
  16. Well tent is up and checked out ok after hiding in the loft for the last decade.
  17. You will need 2, one for the left and one for the right. The ordinary bulb dont care which way the eleccy goes. Right side to left or the other way. LED's, well those above anyway, only work in one direction so you would need to wire them in a bridge. So the LED's are connected together + to - at each side,no not a typo the positive of one to the negative of the other. Sounds confusing, then put your bike wiring, one wire to each +/ - connection. Then whichever way you indicate an led will light. But the polarity will mean only one will light. And stop the bleed over. Need someone better with electronic stuff for this.
  18. Hope we get better weather than the weekend we've just had. 6 large and expensive tents trashed (terminally) by the wind on the campsite we were on, with our caravan . Noah would have had his doubts on the rain too struth. Then today
  19. Give him it back. That will ONLY get worse. Second gear issues can start from 2000 miles to 50000. It is down to how its ridden. If it were me i'd be getting rid ASAP.
  20. Glad to hear you sorted it.
  21. Ok, this is getting more and more common. Not sure on the one front one rear thing but for now, may just be more resistance in those units:- The reason is to do with the bike's wiring. On a bike with normal filament bulbs in the indicators there is a power draw of obviously 42 watts (plus a bit for losses) this needs power ie amps to make it happen. Bit of ohms law and we know your using 3.5 amps or thereabouts. The 3.5 amps is the key to the problem, LED lamps use milliamps to power them and this is the cause. The little bulb in the dash lights up when you turn left or right. It is actually connected to both left and right circuits on the bike but due to the vagaries of electricity there will not be enough power after the dash lamp (it only draws around 1/2 amp or less)to power the othr indicators so the electric just runs to earth through the filaments but doesent actually light them up, (we need 3.5A for that remember) With the LED lamps its different, they only need milliamps to make them work so when the dash lamp earths through the opposite side to that which you want, the 1/2 amp or so thats running to earth will happily power them up. Giving a 4 way flasher effect. You have a couple of options, fitting diodes like the rectifiers on early trailee's like mine. One side of the dash lamp would have BOTH feeds to it via the diodes with the other to earth. (My personall favorite soloution). You could fit resistors to each side of the dash lamp. Not sure how big you need them as you may affect how bright the little dash lamp is. Or simply fit another dash lamp so you have one for the left and one for the right. The easiest method for now is to take the bulb out the dash. As this simple action splits the connection between the circuits. Then the problem can wait till MOT time if need be.
  22. I'll have a think on it, hitting the sack now. Start work at 0230.
  23. No the battery has nothing to do with the starting in normal service. Its good to have it charged obviously. I'd give all the cdi connections a good clean and make sure both the black wires has a good connection to earth (-). Don't mix them though as they are both separate, one runs into the mag the other earths the cdi. If either are dirty they will affect things. Odd that you get one spark then nothing. So if you make and break the b/w wire does that keep the spark regular?
