There are still stories round my way of a rd400 motor in a 125 frame.... Fun times

Ah forgive my oldtimeritus. I thought from asking about restricting the xt he was just restricted. I still dont think the xt needs restricting though and that was the question.... Wasnt it?

Well i remember the rs250. Because it was hilarious watching them trying to stay with me on a 350pv and my mate on a rd125, one of the first pv bikes. Would the 350 go in......(said quietly. Whistling innocently)

You should check with dvla or an approved office as i think the xt550 is under the hp limits. Its only 38hp thats well under 35kw. You might be just peachy as is.

Lot effort for not a lot of oomf. The bike will only gain maybe 10mph and a little acceleration . Be interesting what if though.

You need both sides off. The noise may well be in the stator area but the gear linkage is on the right.
  7. Put one clip in on the bench too. Reduce the odds.

The reason you cant see anything is cos you YOU TOOK OFF THE WRONG SIDE...... Doh....

Yes mate this is what im thinking of using with a period correct clutch master cyl. May end up using one of theirs though. Have a look.... http://www.venhill.co.uk/Magura_Clutch_Conversion/Yamaha/

Maybe a bit but you will be trading torque to get it. There are far better authorities on the liquid cooled dts than i. They can give you much better info.

Thats about it without tuning. Restricted is an abused word with 125s. When the law first changed 125s were tidy and fast and the new laws ment they got pegged back. Modern stuff makes what its designed to make and 60mph is ok for a dt125. Top speed is affected more by your weight than anything on a dt.
  14. Most neglected part of the bike. I am always surprised when people ask about performance items when stuff like chains get neglected. If the chain is in poor condition you could loose as much as 10 percent of your rear wheel horsepower or corresponding fuel consumption. If you have siezed links. Even one. Chain is f@cked, simple as that. That siezed link may snap causing god knows what. At the very least your sprockets, output shaft bearing and wheelbearings are suffering. As well as yourself with high frequency vibration. For the cost it works out cheaper to bin the chain and sprockets as soon as significant wear is apparent. No reason not to get 10k from a prop maintained chain. On my old 600 i managed 18k. It was practically falling off the sprockets by then though.
  15. Its a 4stroke. More importantly a small high rev 4 stroke. The fueling at full throttle is far above what it wants at idle. On a fi bike the system takes over thinks 'twat' and sorts it. Its why cv carbs are used on bikes as they lift the slide proportional to the motor speed. Your just exceeding whats possible. The engine isnt running fast enough to process the fuel and air your adding. So cuts out.

What can cause a bike to vibrate.... how long have you got. Your talking just about anything not as it should be. Engine and wheels are obvious but harmonics plays a big part on bikes too. As to us and uk just use your carbs and electrics. Job done.

There are kits on the market that are stand alone slave cylinders with cable fittings. You can buy their master cyl or use your own. Thats why i want a period match for the tdr. Then the slave can go under the tank and nothing looks out of place. Then i can ride it properly again.

Just a quick question. Trying to narrow my search down a little. Looking for a clutch master cyl that will match the fr brake on the Tdr. Something 88 to 90. Google is too vague just gives more search engines and options. So thought id try old fasioned experience. You all know the look. Black with built in square resivoir and black lever. Any ideas welcome...

Oh no they dont. Politely tell them to stop jacking you about as your taking it to the ministry as you think they are being unfair. Dont fuck about either book it in at your nearest inspection centre. Most likely hear a pin drop followed by the mot man hearing a shit load of paperwork coming his way. You win all round. Either its fixed. Or they get fucked and you get a good mot from the ministry man then have your mate do any minors if they do show. They are trying it on. Kick em hard even if it costs a couple of quid for the satisfaction.

    Maybe a weekly cartoon?
  23. Waterpump seal. Not uncommon. When it fails coolant gets into the gearbox. The rebuild with im assuming new seals will have fixed it.

With good oil that timing chain will do 40 before causing problems. The heads dont have bearings the cams float on a film of oil. Soft wears hard so the cam wears out before the head (honda?). The biggest problem with the 400 bandit is the 600.
