    Rusting Exhaust

Dammed either way, 4stroke exhausts rot from the inside out. I bought a Suzuki with 1500 miles on it (9months old) and the exhaust was dead within 6 months (balance pipe disintegrated). Longer trips help as they keep the moisture to a minimum. I replaced it with a quality semi stainless unit that lasted the life of the bike (I put 30K on it) as the owner after me wrote it off. Twat.
  2. Maybe not john, Aussie model remember. Try reading it upside down.
  3. Oh, you have heard it run though? Anyho, is the tap completely buggerd or can it be fixed. If its broke it may be worth seeing if another model is close, Fj11 from 84 maybe. Thing is those taps are up for 50 to 100 quid on ebay, if you can get one. That's why it may be worth using parts from a similar one to fix yours. As I said, ANYTHING with RD500 on it goes ching££££££
  4. Yow, for an RD500lc. Is it a proper one not an RDZ. I hope it was either cheap or very nearly 100 per cent because they cost proper money to sort and everything on em is rare or non existent. Pictures??
  5. Would need an engineers report for the insurance but pretty much. Someone like chopperz would know the fine print anyhow. :
  6. You dont need single type approval if you use a frame with a log book. Or get a suitable donor bike with the engine you want and build a 'replacement' frame. Make your mods then get an engineers report for the insurance. Its how Streetfighters have done it for years, unless you want to construct your bike to 2014 noise/emmision/safety waffle.
  7. Mr fastner or similar prob do one. They would next day.
  8. Only on you side of the atlantic, price of propane I can wait an hour..
  9. First, poor intro. I will stick this in the workshop (as I dont know what bike, hint) then you can introduce yourself properly. Im becoming DDT2
  10. Its not too big a gambe in most instances, the engine costs about 40quid in replacing onetime gaskets and you can tear it down including taking it from the bike in an hour or two. Trouble being holing a piston put a very fine aluminium powder EVERYWHERE. I have not got away with the same gamble. A crank rebuild should at least be considered. dt, all you need to reassemble a 175 is a fridge and a heat gun. Done in the proper order they go together fine, cold crank with warm bearings, after cold bearings into warm cases.
  11. Nah you dont need a press but if the bearing didnt stay in the case you need an engineering firm to remove it.
  12. Ahhh crap, see 5 a day is bad for your judgement...
  13. The high beam warning light is the oddity there, could be the headlight earth. Causing the feed to loop back and do some odd stuff. What happens if you remove the bulb.
  14. As I remember it foams the RD80 was a water pumper. Lil baby lc unit designed for the 80 and only the 80...... May use the 50 gearbox with diff outer cases but be easier to find Graeme Norton a girl friend. May be wrong though. I am well into my 5aday on the apple juice, hic
  15. It is the wrong place to be honest. I can let you get away with it if you nip to the newcomers welcome area where, er, the newcomers get welcomed after posting a little about themselves. I will shift this into the workshop to save one of our other members going pop......

    Modified XJ6n

Define fast...... I changed to a 250, I can get from a to b far quicker than my old 600 Suzuki. I also remember an IAM instructor making a group of sports bike riders look like kids riding moped on a CB400 Super dream.
  17. Something like this do? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-7-7-INCH-12V-HEADLIGHT-HEADLAMP-MOTORCYCLE-MOTORBIKE-BLACK/260854499094?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222003%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D5348154173221801735%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D20140122125356%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D191089429916&rt=nc
  18. Ok, improvement. Now add some punctuation in to save confusion and make it easy to read the thread. If it gives you a headache reading it people will not bother. Getting forum info is like buying and selling. If the people like and associate with the person asking the help will come in spades. 5 mins on google gives this:- Pilot 17.5 Main 210 Pm sent!
  19. Jonny, can you not ask more constructive questions. You obviously want your bike to go a bit quicker, most people want a bit more go. 33hp? pipe dream to be honest. I heard the same stories, thing is the maximum hp a single cyl 2 stroke can achieve is about 40. That is by mega money factory race teams on bikes that last hours. Real world the first ( 88, 89) tzr 125's had no servo's. The full power versions of those bikes had around 22. That needed different cdi, exhaust, full servo system, massive carb changes and took the bike from a 60mpg machine to a 30mpg machine. Bloody fun though (yes I'm old enough to have ridden one). You need to give more info in the posts, describe your bike, show some pictures to get the members involved then the information will flow. There are several folks on here that know A LOT about TZR's. Right down to which bits fit which model. Thing is atm you sound like the endless "wanna go faster cos my mates said so" group. Lift yourself above that. Invest some time in the forum and then you will have a very sorted TZR.
  20. No dipped beam and you haven't checked the bulb..... You could just flip the connections then dip is main etc to be sure.
  21. Its is superb at what it is. That engine is a real world gem. Fast? er no. Well not compared to sports bikes. When you compare it to the 2cyl opposition like the gs. Its fast. Good service then get some rider training so you get the best from the bike.
  22. Speaking from a 2stroke view. Emmisions, low er...........30mpg from 250cc. ummmm Anyhow it will only matter on the new stuff. They are all tree friendly (er) than the old stuff. Congestion issues are a fair but brutally ignored point, on that basis seeing it as an unescapable benefit with no counter argument there is nothing good coming from whatever the government waffle says. Waffle was used specifically there as I have yet to here proper argument from a politition or civil 'servant'. Sorry, bad day.....
  23. Looks ok. Odd though. Why strip the wiring then leave the electricals in place?
  24. Something for you to consider. On one of the earlier squires meets I rode up with a couple of other forum members in spirited fashion. Enough that (to blackhats eternal hilarity I ran out of 2stroke. ie emptied the full on board tank and an extra litre I had for top up. Last year I rode with a 125, never even used the top up. To the point even when I got home it wouldnt all fit. So riding fast I used getting on for 2 litres. Steady I used a quater of that. Thats why you want the pump. Oil used to be better for 2strokes as emmision rules were easier so some more noxious elements could be used, also do you buy the very best oil? Let the pump do its thing as its set.
