  1. i for one would be intrested to see confirmation from yamaha because i as have said i have an 87 fz600 and the donor bike that i took fairings off are both 2HW prefix and are both air cooled as is the one owned by my mate all three bikes are original the same engines as from date of manufacture same frames so maybe yamaha built both water cooled and aircooled but that does not explain why the yamaha workshop manual for the years 86 and 87 show the bikes as air cooled but the workshop manual 89 through 93 do show them to be water cooled. if you read the history of the fz600 it says the aircooled fz600 were produced from 1986 to 1988 but were dropped as they were no match for the 16 valve engined competition and replaced by the liquid cooled in 1989 this is in yamahas words. the other differance is the air cooled ones were 2 valves per cyclinder in total 8 valves the water cooled was introduced an at the same time they were built with 4 valves per cyclinder to compete with the CBR,s of the time and other 16 valve engined bikes increasing top speed by 26kmh. if you have a haynes manual it also bears this out i think you will find out that the 2HW prefix continued right through, or so my yamaha dealer tells me.
  2. hi ogri have just checked my workshop manual and my bike it shows. model sh650dd-11 shindengen rectifier capacity 18A withstand voltage 20dv so it looks like the one of e bay should be okay as long as he has not done any other mods.
  3. saw that also on e bay but cant answer if it will be okay. but typed sh678-11 into google an it shows it as an 1100 classic rectifier for years 03 04 05 so maybe try looking for a rectifier for an 1100 it was $79, tried wemoto stock list nothing on there good luck
  4. sorry mate but the 86 and 87 fz600 were air cooled the bike i have and its donor are both air cooled as are two more that i know of and have just checked the workshop manual i have, i have a work shop manual which i got by mistake which covers 88 onwards and fzr 600 and they are water cooled. this is my bike and plate
  5. i have an 87fz try these people they have a wide range of parts http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=2147918 that will give you the link to wemoto fz600 parts
  6. i have an 87 fz600 jim which you so rightly say is air cooled although it confused me when i got it as the local yamaha dealer kept telling me it must be water cooled! well its not, here is the photo of model no hope that clears up any confusion, regards paul
  7. as an ex long serving soldier and a mod on a forces site where we have a good mix of serving soldiers and ex service men and women the opinion this morning was that most people ignored this kind of thing, service men and women put up with this kind of thing on a daily basis and just treat it with the contempt it deserves but there was also comments that every bodys opinion should be heard as freedom of speech and peoples freedom in general is what we are fighting for,we have had to put up with this bigoted type of thing and worse from our own people in northern ireland, the main topics for the last few days have been the soldiers and policeman killed in northern ireland. as for wankers we have enough of them in this goverment sending men and women out to fight ill equipped and closing down military hospitals, so that when soldiers are transferred back to this country they are put on wards with other patients where it is not unkown that they recieve verbal abuse from staff as well as other patients. in view of this goverments attitude a lot of us sent back our veterans and long sevice medals in protest at there actions which as usual fell on deaf ears, like all of you it makes my blood boil but we do realise that the majority of people do appreciate the job the men and women of all services do and we thank you for your support.
  8. A man is sitting at home watching TV one night, when there is a knock at the door. The man annoyed at missing his programme answers the door to find a 6ft Stag Beetle standing on the step. After he asks the beetle what the hell it is doing calling at such a late hour, the creature lays into him with a series of vicious kicks and punches, It then walks away whilst the man crawls back into his house to call for an ambulance. At the Hospital the man is reluctant to tell the Doctor how he came about his injuries, but eventually realtes the incredible tale of the Stag Beetle, expecting to be laughed at. To his surprise the Doctor is sympathetic, explaining to the man that there is a nasty bug going round????

  17. did not use the L85 for one it was a load of plastic shit and would have had to use carrier we complained that much that we were issued sterlings as if we were riding along an needed to use weapon it was at hand, we attached using a bungee clip quick release hk53s were not standard issue to most regiments only to the elite so i can not answer that question but brize brings back many happy memorys and sad ones
  18. definitely british, joined up as a young boy after finishing my full term stayed on in a civvie capacity for a few years but due to injuries and ill health had to call it a day, ten years later and 61 still miss it . as for the bikes started off on the old bsa b40 a few years on armstrong and by the time off gulf one we had The Harley Davidson MT350E and Honda R250 s. The bikes were fitted with document panniers and a carrier for the SA80A2 Individual Weapon. but a few civvie dt,s went awol when spotted in some local villages. as for the weapon i liked to use sling as you could clip it on your webbing belt and wear it across the front.
  19. no i was not arockape, when it first kicked off we did not have desert kit only later did we get some of the kit that we were supposed to have even now there are men without full body armour. we had two weapons a side arm and a sterling slung across the front as you can see in this photo my mate with a found weapon, the sterling is just visible under his right arm. you should know better than ask my regiment its not something up for disscussion the bikes will not show up on any checks you always show a lot of intrest in all things military how come you did not join up.

  24. WELL AMANDA,for somebody who has been on the forum for such a short time you know how to put the cat among the pigeons, as oldgitonabike said the guantlet was thrown down that yamaha riders were all harley wana bees and that we were all homos ! there were a lot of replies and some did slag of harleys but there were a lot more that stood up for them, the funny thing was a lot of the folk who slagged them off were from over the pond,if you come on a forum and make that sort of comment what do you expect? there are a few harley owners on this forum and some ex harley owners myself included, in 2006 i purchased a harley from a harley dealership, i have every reason to slag harleys off but realise that maybe i was unlucky and just got a bad one,in the seven months i owned the bike i only managed to do 700 miles as it broke down four out of five times i took it out,it spent most of my ownership in the garage, i was always given a loan bike which never broke down but in the end and after threatening court action i was given my money back as the bike was not fit for purpose was the legal term. people take the piss all the time on forums but you have to put it in context and perhaps after the last thread and now this one we can put the topic of harleys and jap bikes to bed once and for all. paul
