no i never claim to be a better rider so i dont make you sick! like you that would be for others to tell me i never think i know it all as new experiences happen every day as well as the usual ones. i understand what you mean about your outlaw my next door neighbour has been driving forty plus years but still cant reverse and hubby has to reverse it out ! it was only last year that i had to retake my test so only 8yrs till i have to renew my licence (70) apart from the money aspect ie cbt, theory test ,bike test i was glad in a way of being assesed as being over sixty it was good to know i was fit to be on the road and not a danger to others, may be when i am 70 i can redo my advanced riders as way of knowing if i should still be on the road? off topic darren but have you used the eurostar folkestone to calais? as i started to get seasick last year on the harwich hook of holland and felt rough for a couple of hours after getting of the boat and as the eurostar is a short crossing the extramileage is not to bad.

licences should have a set life ! what another money making scheme for the goverment £80 or so to pass an assesment a few more bob in the coffers, in part i agree with you if it was for the saftey aspect alone as there are plenty of bikers out there coming back to biking after not being on a bike for years, its not just young bikers riding like twats. i hope when you say licences you also include car drivers, bus drivers , hgv drivers as well, as young scooter riders are not the only idiots on the road. i must be one of those people who make you sick as i pased my test in 1963 so that was way before you were in nappies but due to dvlc losing my bike entitlement i had to take cbt ,theory test and bike test again and had no problem with basc motorcycle control what so ever, like you i have ridden in many countries through out the world and have always rode bikes and still learning, i thought the cbt was a joke how can you expect somebody who has never been on a bike before to be competent after six hours training but compare it with being able to jump on a bike at sixteen 250cc no helmet laws just L plates so many young people died, you passed your test and no such thing as 33bhp restriction at 17 i was a danger not only to my self but to every one, cbt is not ideal or is the 33bhp restriction lets hope this new test is a start maybe they might incorporate some of it in to a new style cbt. age does not make you a good rider there are plenty of very good young riders out there on the road riding safely who hopefully will die of old age given the right training.

well mate if this is the first forum you have joined then maybe you should know most people who join a forum normally introduce them selves, tell us a little bit about them selves ,what bike experience they have, not just jump in expecting help or advice, would you just walk in a bar you had not been in before and start asking questions i dont think so.as it was a bank holiday the forum would have been quiet as a lot of folk were out on there bikes but to expect a reply in just over twenty four hours and then start slagging people off that you dont know then all i can say is FUCK OFF!

yes drewps cancelled due to torrential rain! they said it only rains in quatar six times a year, when they were interviewing toseland in the pits he just laughed and said every time he had been there it rained and he had been there more than six times.

looks good i also have a 87 fz600 and been looking for some ideas, the rear end looks far better with the r1 seat unit on, have you finished the bike yet if not when you have cant wait to see what it looks like,

as far as drewpys suggestion on float level it is not that with mine as float levels were all done and have checked the inlet and outlet pipes, forgot to mention fuel pump renewed as i thought it could be that have run bike with filler cap undone so i can not think its a vacuum problem and as for the crankshaft as has been suggested if your bike runs like mine no knocks no noises what so ever no loss of power then what the crankshaft has to do with it i dont know, sidestand switch checked and cut off switch checked all ok its just a mystery? does not happen all the time as you say it can happen twice in half a mile or after ten miles and the next day not at all have looked on other sites and a couple of other people have the same issue will just keep trying
-
i am sorry to say i have the same problem, starts fine i can do ten or twenty miles not a problem slow done for a roundabout or traffic lights open the throttle and the engine just dies starts again no problem, like you some times it does not happen, have had the carbs off twice and cleaned checked jets , yamaha have been no help what so ever told it was the air filter fitted new air filter checked all inlets and outlets all clear and in good order no cracks, fuel lines all clear drained tank and carbs new fuel still happening ,throttle sensor checked all ok , idle checked and all ok there, its like you say just so bloody annoying i rode to conway last week which is 80 miles not a problem it did not happen once then coming back after two miles it just cut out when overtaking pulled in clutch hit the stater and away it goes for another five miles then did it again three times then ok for the next fifty miles, it is a 2001 with 4500mls on it in perfect nick apart from this, i am not new to bikes have been riding since 1963 had had many bikes but this is just driving me mad if i crack it will let you know.

none of this is new of course we are being watched monitered or spyed on ,civil liberties breached peoples rights infringed its just a pity that when they have got all this information they lose it mislay it, thats far more worrying, goverment departments sending data out of this country to be processed then finding its gone awol.

first bike at 16 in 1962 back in the days when you could ride a 250 on l plates. tiger cub, franny barnet 175, royal enfield crusader sports first 250, bonnieville t140 sold last year. do not remember any thing as small as a dt50 in them days even the lawnmowers had bigger engines then. as for an old fart or mid life crisis ? i must be an old fart as i have always rode bikes so no mid life crisis. hope when you grow up you get to be an old fart! many young riders never make it. stay in control, die of old age as the ad says motorbikes are not dangerous, bad riders are.

steve if you follow fosdykes instructions you will not go far wrong i have just recovered my seat and done it just as described as he says dont be afraid to take out staples and retighten or start again, when you take of the old seat take it off and you can use it get the size and shape for your new material,my seat is also raised on the front (fz600) it took 2 or 3 attempts to get all the creases out stretching and re stapling but i got there in the end and now dont get a wet bum after its been raining lol . as for import duty anything from within the europeon union you dont pay as mervin said, if you order from the states or any country outside of the european union get them to mark it as a gift as then you dont pay import duty .

Police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties & local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink by any woman. Many females use a date-rape-drug on the market called ' Beer' . The drug is found in liquid form and is available anywhere. It comes in bottles, cans, or from taps and in large kegs.. Beer is used by female sexual predators at parties and bars to persuade their male victims to go home and sleep with them. A woman needs only to get a guy to consume a few units of Beer and then simply ask him home for no-strings-attached sex. Men are rendered helpless against this approach. After several Beers , men will often succumb to the desires to sleep with horrific looking women to whom they would never normally be attracted. After drinking Beer, men often awaken with only hazy memories of exactly what happened to them the night before, often with just a vague feeling that 'something bad' occurred. At other times these unfortunate men are swindled out of their life's savings, in a familiar scam known as 'a relationship'. In extreme cases, the female may even be shrewd enough to entrap the unsuspecting male into a longer-term form of servitude and punishment referred to as 'marriage'!!! Men are much more susceptible to this scam after Beer is administered and sex is offered by the predatory females. If you fall victim to this ' Beer' scam and the women administering it, there are male support groups where you can discuss the details of your shocking encounter with similarly victimized men. For the support group nearest you, just look up RUGBY CLUB in the phone book.

steve just found this on driving abroad which includes ireland Where Can You Use Your UK Licence? Regardless of where you’re planning to drive, always make sure that your licence is up to date before you leave and that you have it with you. If you’re planning to drive in the European Community, you can in general use your UK licence without any problems. Always remember that even though the legal driving age in the UK is 17, this may not be the case in many countries throughout Europe. Most have a minimum driving age of 18, so please check first before trying to drive there if you’re a young driver. The list of countries who happily accept a UK driving licence without a problem are: * Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden whether that includes learner drivers i dont know but will ask a mate who works for the irish tourist board just checked he says only full licence holders not provisional and that rep of ireland provisional licence holders can not cross in to the north either it works both ways. Minimum age for driving, provided you hold a full UK licence, is 17 for a car and for a motorcycle over 125cc. Motorcycle drivers and passengers must wear crash helmets. Motor insurance: third-party insurance is compulsory. A green card is not required but your insurer should be advised of your trip. looks like its not good news unless you fancy northern ireland?

welcome bonard and peter c to the forum it is great to see older riders coming along and hearing about your experiences, i have been a biker since 1962 and until recent years have taken in forgranted, a couple of years ago i updated my licence for a photo licence and never checked it, it was only when stopped on a spot check i was informed by the cop that i was not allowed to ride a bike as dvlc had not put my entitlement on my new licence ,to cut a long story short they could not find any record of my test back in the sixties so i had to take the theory test .cbt and another test, so at the age of 61 with years of bad habits i did the lot and can now look back and see how much things had changed from being a spotty 16yr old who thought he knew it all to a older bloke who had forgot most of the basics. enjoy your bikes and new experiences and have a ball, age is just a bunch of numbers, there are plenty of older bikers out there in there seventies and eighties and its amazing to see how they seem so young in there outlook.

nice bike luv it in black always great to see folk out and about enjoying there bikes.
-
dont wory about it mate it makes a change from reading about all these folk who are now out of hibernation and are going for there first ride of the year! nodding at every man and his dog well roll on winter when it gets back to normality and the rest of us out there day in day out can stop nodding at all these fair weather bikers on there toys. my bike aint no toy its my preffered form transport, my passion in life and i envy any one lucky enough to spend that sort of money on something they enjoy so much, enjoy it while you can before this bloody goverment put an end to it with there 50mph limits and stealth boxes and any other stupid ideas they come up with ( got that of my chest lol)

the 3KM is not original well not to the fz600,Yamaha FZ600. 598cc. 1986 through 1988 were mostly air cooled and did bear the 2HW which stayed with the later models if yours has 2 valves per cylinder then it is air cooled if it has 4 valves per cylinder then its water cooled but anything with yamaha is possible if what i have read is correct they had a lot of XJ 600 engines and the fz was developed out of that the later fz600 were 599cc some bikes built with and aluminium frames then the others were steel now you must be confused, i am sure yamaha do things to confuse us as my mates dragstar has a different rectifier than mine both the same year, good luck with your rebuild, i am going to stop reading anymore about the bloody fz they are right bloody oddballs but i love riding mine it handles well and always gives me a buzz.
