As far as i can tell the kill switch works fine all the ignition lights come on all the lights work the main fuse is ok starter switch seems ok to

Can anyone please help me! I have a 97 Xtz 660 which will not start with the button but i can start it if i put direct power from the battery to the starter relay. The sidestand switch will stop the engine if i put it down when in gear. I dont know where to look next?
