I finally managed to check the pick up and stator. They mached the specifications. So anymore suggestions because I dont have any. Thanks for all the good ideas. Unfortunately it wasnt the pick up.

Ill need to wait and get the flywheel tool before I can check but I realised that I can turn the flywheel by hand very easily. I was thinking, no compression. So I took barrel of and the cylinder head gasket looked like it had been blowing a bit as it was burnt. I cleaned it up a bit and put it back on with some instant gasket aswell. Could this be the problem?

Im not too sure what im doing with the electrical side of things so heres the specifications form manual. So do i just check the resistence across the stator coil? Resistance of the stator coil: 0.4 ~ 0.6 Ω at 20º C Ignition data: Type of advance arrangement: Electronic Ignition: 14º/2000 r/min Advance: 24º/2000 r/min CDI: Magneto model / manufacturer MORIC 5WX Pickup resistance (color) 350 ± 20% Ω(WR-WL) Charge coil resistance (color) 0.36 ± 20% Ω(W) Lighting coil resistance (color) 0.28 ± 20% Ω(YR)

I tried another carb on. The bike reacted in the same way so thats that ruled out. As for ignition, I tried the colour tune in and when it cut out it was still sparking. Could it still be an ignition problem? If so I will check the magneto. I will also be dismantling my engine at the weekend to check for air leaks. Thanks

Sorry I have not responded the black oil is coming from the R/h crankcase cover but I realised there was 2 stroke oil coming from the center cover and only enough to form a small drip after several runs. I have still to recieve the carb and check the ignition. I will wait and try these first. I will post back after I have tried these. Thanks for all your help.

Well at 9500rpm it slows down and speeds up. Only by about 1mph but thats a lot on a moped and it makes it feel really bad. I raised carb needle so I have as much petrol going into engine as I can. So air leak right, but the manifold is fine. I put a samller air filter on it that must have been restricting it as when I put the choke on with that air filter the bike cut out(Like it should do) It didnt run well with that air filter because it was restricting it though. And for the temperature, the light didnt come on and radiator was warm so I dont have any more ideas Others have this problem but with no solution. http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6545

My yamaha tzr 50 sometimes cuts out when Im just going along fine. The revs just drop until I come to a stop. Also it doesnt let me rev it hard as I cant take it past 10,000 rpm but as soon as I put the choke on it pulls right past 10,000. When it does cut out it is hard to get started. It wont even bump start but if I leave it 5 minutes or so it usually starts fine. After that it cuts out every couple of miles. Can somebody help me with ths problem It is not a sparking problem as I have already changed the coil, lead, plug, and tried a colour tune in and even when it cut out it was still sparking but not igniting. I have also cleaned the carbuerattor and raised the needle as high as it can go as the choke suggests that there is not enough petrol or there is too much air in the mixture. The bike is derestricted but I havent done any modifications to it. The bike used to go fine and I havent changed anything.
  8. It is stupid but the bikes were made to be restricted to 31mph so it wouldnt have really mattered.

Just a suggestion but could the reed valves be opening too much and letting in tto much air?
  10. tzr92 replied to busa boy's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Not sure what i should be but mine is as high as it can go because my bike is not going properly, I can go full throttle but when I put my choke on it pulls better. I need to put my choke on to make it go better. I think I must have a air leak in my crankcase. Have you checked if your main jet is clean?
  11. Yeah you cut the pink/white wire. If your still unsure just cut them in the middle so you can join them back together if you have to. I also put a bicycle speedo on my bike as it gives max speed, tripmeter, time etc which the original speedometer doesnt give

Apparently there is restrictors in the airbox but when I got my bike they were already removed. Just open it up and have a look. Try adjusting the mixture screw. If that doesnt work then try raising the needle on the throttle cable that goes into the carb. Tis will richen the mixture.

Anyone else have any ideas on what could cause my bike to cut out. You dont know how frustrating its getting lol
  14. tzr92 replied to tzr92's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
It is derestricted as it has a different exhaust. Its a Bidalot exhaust ive never heard of it before and it was on the bike when I got it. And what is the derestriction kit and where does it go. I thought the bikes were just restricted in the exhaust.

I found this other forum and it looks like others have had the same problem but still no soloution. http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6545

I was getting 58 on flat and up to 65 down hill but I have not done anything to tune mine up. If you want to go faster put a larger front sprocket on the front try a 13tooth sprocket and 46-48 tooth on back. You will go faster but your bike will not accelerate as well. I have a 12 tooth sprocket on mine

Here is the manual the specs for the carb and jets is on page 25 of 251 avialle.free.fr/Manuel_d'atelier_-_Yamaha_TZR50_2003_(anglais).pdf copy this into address bar. My main jet is a 94 and it is the standard carb and derestricted with standard air filter

The plug was light brown. I realised when I checked for oil leaks that on the right hand side at the bottom of the engine there was pure black oil. I gave the gasket a wipe form the cylinder to the bottom of the gearbox as it was black and soaked with oil. The bike hasn't been any smokier than usual only when I start it up but after a couple of minutes it clears. Could this cause the bike to cut out?

Could it cut out if there was a air leak in the crankcase(If the seal was gone) ? Thats what im going to check next. If the cylinder was scored or damaged could that cause the problem?

You said it rises to 6-7000rpm. Does it do that itself?

I have a tzr 50 and it sends oil in small pulses which is run of the engine and it opens the valve every second or two and a small drop of oil comes out but their should be no air.

The flame was blue which im sure it is supposed to be. Although I have already cleaned my carb 3 times Im going to try another one on it.

It could be worn cams and rockers and cam journals. Which can be caused by not enough oil or poor quality oil. Have you checked for oil leaks or a lot of smoke coming out of your exhaust. I dont know your bike well but check that there are no oil lines blocked and the oil pump is working. If it is worn cams then expect to have a large bill as you will probably have to change the cam chain and cam followers. How old is your bike? Good luck anyway

I put a colour tune in and it seems to be sparking fine so it cant be the magneto. any other ideas on what it could be?
  25. tzr92 replied to tzr92's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
I have not checked the magneto yet but i realised that when it is holding back or missing and i put the choke on it runs like it should and the revs pick right up to the redline but still cuts out sometime. So i figured it might be a fuel starvation problem but I have checked the fuel flow from the tank and it seems fine.
