Ill have to transfer pics to here soon. I ve had the frame, swingarm and side stand blasted and powdercoated and it looks great! I finally picked up a decent tank from the US via ebay last week. next will be the dismantling of the engine...that will be a chore!!

good call..Ill be sending parts to the blasters soon and have the powdercoat them then fill the voids with the waxoyl!! As this bike wont be on the road much, Powdercoating seems the best way instead of painting.

the engine will be major expense, rebuilding it will be an exercise!! I scrubbed the swingarm, pipes and frame. The only holes I found were 2 small holes in the right pipe!

frame ready to go to the bead blasters along with the front guard and swingarm. Despite the 1st impressions, the bike is surprisingly solid!

looks similar, mine is definately a 1966 YL1. I checked with a mate who worked for Yamaha years ago. The AS1 tank is so close in profile to mine..

I picked this bike up yesterday and its a bit rough, but restorable. I would like to know if there a onestop shop for these bikes? Ive bookmarked all I can on ebay and stores in the US for the bits missing or need replacing. The only numbers I can make out on the engine so far are: L1-????? what year model is this or how do I find it please? cheers.

Gday, does anyone have any info for this little bike. I picked up 1 today and most of it is there: engine, frame, seat, forks, wheels. Its missing the battery holder, airfilter door and I may need another fuel tank.

sounds like a good idea! count me in. Whether it's for the swingarm or the tank, don't matter to me.

Old git, yeah I did look at the Hagon site and my bike was not listed. Hagon do have distributors here in OZ, so I'll get onto them asap. It may be about A$400+ for a new shock. Thanks for the help.

I have a '78 DT175e and the monoshock will someday in the future need a rebuild. Is it possible to do or is there an alternative shock?

Keep it. I've had my TY250a for over 20 years and it's been used for everything from Trials to chasing CR and WR's. Cost next to nothing to maintain and you can still get parts for it easily enough.

My '74 TY250! It's been reliable for over 20 years of ownership, cost bugger all to maintain and it does Trials, trails and the odd chasing of CR & WR's as well!
