Hi Just give me the list of topics & I'll insert the required alterations ! Regards Jim
  3. Hi, Do you have the pinouts for the 1992 stuff you have ? in the previous decade Yamaha tended to keeps all the plugs the same so the production of the loom to the out sourced CDI/TCI (Yamaha didn't make um !) was easier in order to reduce costs. If you have this to hand and the amount of connetors are the same there is a fair chance you have the answer Regards Jim

Hi YamiGirl, Can I add a footnote ? nevermind here it is " i passed my test last July at the ripe old age of 46" should read "I passed my test last July at the young age of 46" Regards Jim

Hi Bornard, wait till you get a larger bike .... then you will know what 'nippy' is ... Doing DA may be a good thing but personally I think not ... when I took my bike test you could have any bike <250cc pass the the test & go out & buy a CBX, XS1100 or GS thou ..... correct me if I'm wrong but some one at work says that he passed a DA test and can ride unlimited cc/power (full A licence) which if this person is correct you could get off a 33 bhp bike (a 250 in my day) and jump onto an R1 with sheds of BHP the next day, where as the next stage up for me was perhaps an 80bhp 1000cc bike, so if this fella is correct the law has taken a backward step ... 33hp -> 150hp+ superbike.. unless you can tell me how it works Regards Jim
  6. Hi Ally, Today I was doing the forward planning thing and noticed a Honda Hornet (or similar) coming towards me, being a little more higher up than the m/c rider I noticed a people carrier at a junction to my right (bikes left) and from the training LGV drivers have I could not flash at the bike to warn him the the people carrier was going to pull out in his path, If I had been on test I would have failed, but instead the instructor told me to 'grab' some more road (push the lorry just over the white (centre) line which in turn slowed the M/C down... I got the abuse from the rider (as I was close ,but not that close to his line) and he slowed up and the people carrier pulled out as I had expected. If I had not slowed the bike up the rider would have been embedded in the wing/door of the people carrier, so the upshot of this is I did intimidate the rider a bit ... but for his/her own good ... If the manouver I did is trained in to all class I drivers the M/c rider may think they are being a bit 'silly'(class I driver) but are in fact trying to help. As a footnote 1: you need to take into account how much room a class I (or in fact class II) needs to get around a town/narrow streets and bike riders should 'make a bit of allowence' for the increased area vehicle of this size needs and foward plan accordingly rather than treating it as a 'big car'. 2: This is not in defence of any class I or II driver that is bending the rules, the training/ forward planning should be there the whole time, my instructor pulled me on so many bad habits I have picked up since the last test and I'm now back on the straight & narrow (LGV wise) 3: The Divi ran real well today, best it's done for years .... it can (again) out accelerate cars from as low as 20 mph in top so its 'automatic' gearbox is now back working ! Regards Jim
  7. Hi Jim, I must be a a sort of case study then .... did moped, motorcycle, car, class III (training only as that came with the car),class II & now Class I in that order but I missed out the shetland pony & tractors !! oh but I forgot the cycling one you took as a kid at school Regards Jim
  8. A nice bike, but the only thing that I didn't like was the ridding position, made my wrists ache quite a lot, but a bigger person than me (you cannot get smaller) may not suffer so much Regards Jim

y eye pet just keep at it ... I did my test etc in the middle/late 70's and still ended up with the same problems as you .. back then you'll do it ... just as this week I'm doing the class I HGV(LGV) test Regards Jim
  11. Hi Ally, as I'm soooooo old now I'm finding it difficult to put modern thinking into practice ..... the instructor is picking my up on road position & gear changing .... never mind 8 speed split boxes r a bit more difficult to use (when dragging a trailer) than the normal one .... but the Divi ran well not too bad for a 11 year old bike with just below 8k on the clock (I know thats right coz I had it new !!!) Regards Jim

    Fix or scrap?

Hi There, As long as the motor didn't rattle too much and all of the rings where found in the exhaust a rebuild on this section will put the motor right. You will have to take into account that the bike has not been 'serviced' correctly for years so ontop of replacing the bits you mention it would be good to have the timming set & the exhaust system cooked & decoked. With the wiring (dependant on the state of the loom) could be restored with very little out lay or you could be on for a new loom and/or a custom rewire , It would be good to try to maintain the original wire colours just for ease of fault finding but if produce ur own loom take note of the custom wire colours you have used. Regards Jim
  13. Hi All, This week I am taking my class I test in Glos so to get there I took the covers off the Divi and ran it the 40 or so miles from here (Worcestershire) to there (Glos) as usual it didn't like the winter lay off but on the way back ran as it should but as a note to others don't forget if youur bike has 'been to bed for the winter' don't forget to check the tyre pressures and if any of the calipers have siezed up. I didn't have these problems but as I was running down the M5 I had to recollect if I had checked these items out ... or not ! Well the Class I went ok (only managed 1 snafu) but as the test is on Friday I have a bit of work to do remembering how to approach junctions etc (bad habits). I'll let you know if I manage to pass ... but I guess it's not likley Regards Jim

    max loads

Hi steve, he must have had a good poo but I still maintain that the weight mentioned will be the accessory weight rather than the total M.A.M !!! Regards Jim
  15. Perhaps post another thread with the modal code in the subject asking for an owner of the correct modal to do a diagram of the plug they have on the bike I mentioned R1 or is the motor the olde worldie FZR1000 (circa 1990) ? Regards Jim
  16. Hi There, from my point of view I would be able to tell you the function of each wire if I had the wire colours connected to the unit rather than physical position on the unit.... catch 22 I guess Regards Jim
  17. Hi Rob, is it an air cooled FZ600 or a watercooled FZR600 ? Regards Jim
  18. Hi Paul, the same could be said of the XJ600s (apart from the price being lower) or in fact the 900 (insurance may knock the 900 out but in saying that may 900 is insured F.C for £97 ... a small case for being old ?). So perhaps a broad spectrum of bikes need to be looked at in this case ? Regards Jim
  19. Sorry to hear about that but I can understand not to drop K's down the road ... so happy hunting Regards Jim

    max loads

hmm would this be an late 80's/early 90's FZR if so ignore the plate it was a Japanise typo.. the machine will carry a payload (riders & luggage) greater than 90 kilo, but you may find a warning on a later bike which relates to the luggage weight so I guess just ignore it .. unless you have an elephant on the back !!! Regards Jim
  21. Just wondering why you would put an R1 motor in a Suzuki van ? it would be better if you had the wire colours into the cdi so you could trace the wiring back to work out its function. Just interested, how have you sorted the drive out ? and which rear axle have you used ... I do tend to like micro vans (I have a Vespa one at present) and am interested why you didn't put the 1300 16v Daihatsu motor & axle to replace the Suzi motor & axle ? I would guess the R1 motor will have some problems powering the van as it's power/torque is going to be all wrong unless it's going to be a straight line special Regards Jim

    rebuild

Hi There, when the Yas1 was new no one worried about using a torque wrench to tighten stuff up, the wheel spindles were tightend up until the split pin hole lined up with the castle nut & the head(s) were just tightened down untill tight, but if you wish to be correct use data from a later manual (RD125a ~ DX) which will give you the sprocket carrier, wheel spindle and cylinder head torque settings, but I guess you dont need them too much Regards JIm

    max loads

Think again .. we could just about get in to that limit. If the bike is UK plated and a moped, as the plate was badly designed (which I doubt its a UK bike), the weight applied to the maximum design wieght of the bike & not the payload but assuming Yamaha had to apply the same data to the plate in other countries perhaps this refers to its overall weight Regards Jim
