  1. Hi There, I went to Yamaha's factory in 1980 and every bike I saw come off the production lines was red lined in each gear at the end of the line then ridden down to the packing dept with great haste .. when I was there I saw RD250LC's given a bending on one line as Passolas given a thorough work out on another !! Are you sure the spark is being delivered at the correct time ? The fault you mention can be just the ignition timming out... I guess the bike is a DT125LC of some form and if the CDI box or pulse coil has gone U/S the ignition timming could be well out .. hence a dry plug & misfires but I guess you need to strip the engine to see if you still have compression Regards Jim
  2. Hi There, I guess you have 2-3mm of free play at the lever b4 the clutch takes up ? if not adjust it by slackening the cable adjuster of completely and adjusting the push rod (screw the adjuster in then back off a half turn) then re adjust the lever to 2-3mm, But Take into account how much play there is in the clutch lever itself .... an oval hole in a clutch lever can cause loads of clutch problems. as the leverage is all wrong. If the clutch basket is at fault you will have either slip or drag from the clutch, the friction plates would have made grooves in the basket which can be repaired (if not to severe) by filing the sections of the clutch basket that are grooved until smooth. But as your clutch dont engage until nearly the lever is at the bars I would go with the lever being oval and (just thought this bike is now 30 years old) the crankcase cover (worm gear) could now be worn and you have problems there ... easy to diagnose take off the cover & see if the arm that the cable connects to wobbles it the case ! Regards Jim
  3. Hi Cole, The Short answer is no, as the R5 is now an old stroker, it's unlikley that fitting any sort of non std silencers will do it any good. Off the peg Expansion chambers came in a bit later than R5/RD350a/b etc so you may find fitting pipes for the later RD's may give you loads of problems, but if you have the time, spares (for when you may hole a piston or nip it up) go for it, but I guess a tidy R5 would be worth more stock rather than hacked about with, but its your baby do what you think is best. Regards Jim
  4. Hi perhaps the guy below was well sorted and you would have not a true point as to what went on.. your old man may have been out also .. it is very strange that things like this go on ... just the Dingles doing there stuff !!! but dont worry just put the bike back on the road !!! Regards Jim
  5. Thats well dear ... I have the XJ900 and 2 FS1's for just less than a ton all in I would guess a blade, that must belong to an inferior brand, so insurance for machines could be expensive coo stick with the Yam stuff not this oddball Honda kit !
  6. Hi Ally , I wonder if Devit still run ? they used to do a good insurance for the step thro's ... back in the 70's .... Ok I'm old but its the best I can do Regards Jim
  7. Hi Marc I guess you checked the kill switch (if fitted) back in my era (70's/80's) I went out to loads of break downs for a kill switch !!! Regards Jim
  8. Hi There, 1) the oil going milky will be due to it not getting hot enough, if you run the bike on short journeys condensation builds up in the crankcase & mixes with the oil. If you need to use the bike on short journeys you may try covering the oil cooler so that the oil gets hotter quicker and lessens the chance of engine condensation (which is verry bad for clutches !!). Failing that give the bike a good run or leave it idling for a long time in order to get the oil hot. 2) Side stand switch, I assume the wiring has been removed, else you could just trace it back to the connector, if so remove the side panal and/or tank to find the 'spare' connector, prior to divi (XJ600/YX600) the connector was under the L/h side cover area but have a dig around that area Regards Jim
  9. We do have full size bin trucks for the rual routes but there are 1200 houses that even a 4 wheeler cannot get to .. as I said this is one of the easier ones a lot of the time I'm folding both mirrors in & reversing blind (head out of the window job missing the hedges & trees), but the good point is I only have to pick up 1200 houses a week ... the six wheelers do that in a day and the 4 wheelers do about 600~800. The council stipulate bags on the edge of the property so I end up doing miles across fields/bridal paths and such like ! Regards Jim
  10. Hi There, RS & RXS use a sky blue wire for the nuetral light my guess you have an RS100 as you dont seam to have a cdi unit but if you post the first three digits of the frame number, e.g 3L1, this can be confirmed Regards Jim

    fs1e rally

Hi I wont get involved ... but if you remember there were 2 purples 74 & 75 ... 75 showed the brown with pinstripes then 76 with speedblocks 77 speed blocks on brown followed by the FS1EA in blue and red for the DX version ... I must admit that in the dealership I worked in by 1976 we had sold all purple bikes & were on to selling brown ones !!! Regards Jim
  12. Hi there, dont forget the word Maxim when checking out XS400's ... in the UK XS400 (12E) the dohc one is some what different to the sohc modals ... most searchs will throw the sohc modal which had C/B ignition. If you blow the pic up (in the link) the camara flash covers up the important bit !!!. but to confirm the unit part number wander into a Yamaha dealer & get them to check! Regards Jim

    1977 V75a

Hi Ally No problem ... just let me know if you need more help on this subject !! Regards Jim
  14. 1 Black= ignition 2 Red green= battery charge 3 blue = is this Sky blue (SB) if so its the neutral light 4 yellow= head tail lights 5 Green = not sure could this be sky blue ?? but just to confirm this is an RXS100 & not an RS100 ? the wiring seems to indicate RS100 and not RXS, the major differences between the 2 are electronic ignition (RXS) which would have had a white/red wire from the mag, energy induction (RXS) a tube between the carb & barrell (on the read block) leading to a plastic chamber. if you have an RS100 the black is all you need to worry about ... run this to the kill switch then down to the coil. These bikes dont need a battery to run, so there will be no need to fit it along with the rectifier these 2 items are there to run the brake light, neutral light, horn etc Regards Jim
  15. Well difficult access looks like this These 2 shots are of the same place and to be honest this is an easy one Regards Jim

    1977 V75a

Hi Ally, The V75 was a 2 speeder & not a 3 speeder the semi automatic V50/70/80/90 had the three gears. The V75 would have needed 3 clutches in order to have 3 gears, if you look at the picies you will see a big spring holding the clutch shoes in, as the engine speed increased the rollers ran out and the drive was taken up, in order for second gear to be engaged (clutch2 had a stronger spring) the centrifugal force had to overcome the spring strengh, when it did the second clutch engaged which in turn engaged second gear. With the rattle in both high & low range the fault lies with the pins between the clutch shoes, the noise is the shoes moving about. Does the bike take up drive smoothly or does it 'lurch' before taking up drive ? Does the bike take a long time to change from first to second ? you should have one of these problems which will indicate which clutch is at fault The motor needs to be stripped and the offending clutch replaced (part 5 or 8) and at the same time its worth putting a new spring around the rollers (part 13), and the noise will be gone. I did notice on ebay someone was selling a V75 oil pump quite cheap which will return the bike to standard. Regards Jim
  17. Hi There, Just a shot in the dark but perhaps the part number is 31A-82305-10-00 I did a bit of research and the bike has a lot in common with the 31A XJ900F but have a look at this as you can see they reckon its a genuine one but at 60 euros this looks a little cheap ! I have a factory w/s manual for the 31A XJ900 if you require it. Regards Jim
  18. Hi There, you could try http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-SR250-SE-1980...A1%7C240%3A1318. Ok not the correct modal but I would guess the engine is common between the 2. I can remember most of the set up for the SR250 so if you get real stuck drop me a line Regards Jim
  19. It must be well stuffed if the panels cannot b repaired ! Is there 90% of the damaged panals remaining ? If so a plastic repairman can make them good. The point I was making is you could have a few bits repaired with the remaining good bits painted to the spec you want for less than buying a few new bits Regards Jim
  20. Why not go to a bike plastic/paint repairer ? your plastics & tank could be well cheaper than buying bits & having them sprayed ... I just had the XJ900 plastics repaired (fairing cracked & scuffed, front mudguard scuffed) they were repaired & painted to OEM on top of that I took in 2 FS1 tanks 2 sets of side panels, 2 seat tails and both sides of the lower fairing for the 900... total cost £270 so I guess a repair would be cheaper rather than new panels and repainting them unless you want to customize your bike but still you could use the old bits repaired & painted rather than new & repainted. Regards Jim
  21. Ok used in another Country b4 being registered with DVLA(if UK) you would have the "Declared New At First Registration" in box 3 on your V5C if it dont say that the Date of Manufacture will be the import date via the customs tags etc, So I guess your bike was imported 16 days b4 registration with DVLA and with those dates you have no chance of registration abroad & import to the UK so is the steering wheel on the left sorry I jest, to find out the year you may need to use a VIN calc (but WR's may not have a full VIN if not you may need to enter the modal prefix (digits b4 the - on the engine/frame no) to an internet search which may well give you the year of manufacture and also the market it was destind for. Regards Jim
  22. I managed nearly 2 years agency b4 they took me on full time & never looked back the money is ok but there are not to many places you can work 5 hours and get paid for 7 (Friday 6 start & last bag on by 9:30 & tipped by 10 !) ! This is how we do difficult access and here is Divi Regards Jim
  23. Just noticed .. Divi owner ... ok you have the baby one but still a Divi !! Regards Jim
  24. still looking for the R1 in a bin bag but I guess I wont find it but you are correct the amount of good stuff dumped is untrue ... I don't know how long u have done but I have a decade and have had loads ... where I go it's good to update the PC or laptop !!! Regards Jim
