  1. Hi Matt, I dont think this will fit for the following reasons 1) The back plate (the section the points are attached to) is very different between the 650 & 400 so you will have to modify it to fit an XS400 2) The ARU on the 650 engine is mounted on the right of the engine the 400 to the left, but tbh when you have a cdi fitted the mechanical ARU is not required but the cdi system may be designed to fit to the 650 set up 3) The inbuilt ignition curve in the CDI unit may not suit the XS400 as I guess the system in question was designed to work on the 650. sorry to pee on your bonfire but I guess some more research is required perhaps look at the HPI web site they have something there Regards Jim
  2. Hi React, the DT of that era had 2 plug mounts from the factory the one had a 'blanking' bolt in situ & the other had the spark plug ... take into account 1974 plugs would whisker at a moments notice so the extra plug thread was there for serious off roaders who had a plug failure and could swap the plug cap to another plug and get the bike running again in a short period of time .. tbh the one plug/plug hole is very close to the exhaust and may cause injury changing the cap over but it did work .... From memory I can only think of one person that removed the blanking plug and installed the second plug. I can guess people who didn't have plug problems (when 2 stroke oil got better) would never think that a dual plug cylinder head was a requirement ! Regards Jim
  3. Hi Vince if the indicator lamps are creamed you may have a short ... hence the clicking noise from the relay, your fiddling about may have stopped the short and the problem now may live with blown bulbs or bad/distroyed earths Regards Jim
  4. That's a Honda thing built in Italy the TZR is one of the last jap produced bikes. If the NSR is in the same genre your float bowl problem this may have been down to sub standard manufacturing ! Regards Jim
  5. you'll have to pay a bit for the correct stuff tho ! Regards Jim
  6. Hi, done this one loadsa times now you have metioned the fuel being expelled... do your exams etc & when you are ready I'll give you the load down ! Regards Jim
  7. so you don't fancy Hazel then ? oh ok but a total government change here would be good .. with the electorate calling the shots .. if the employee (MP) doesn't hold up his/her electorate sacks them and puts the 'new person' in their place Regards Jim
  8. Hi, I would think that is an old wives tale !!! just imagine that fluid un the inside of ur visor .. no mist but you end up with such poor vision... I would guess you youngsters can see through the poo but us oldies dont stand a chance .... so therefore just use an expensive demister that works when you get older !!! Regards Jim
  9. Hi, Cov to Stratford I guess you got wet ?? there is the point that what ever stuff you buy will not keep you dry ... you could buy belstaff trailmasters which may keep you dry(ish) but you would look like a kn?b !!! Regards Jim
  10. Hi, I would guess backdires = back fires ...? If that is the case I would guess the pulse coil has failed but there is the point that the CDI and/or stator could have failed to ... the fuel leak will be down to worn out carb bits ... having a shop to fix it may cost mega cash Regards Jim
  11. Hi Mark, back in the day when the bike was new YPVS conversions cost a shed load so therefore I am not worried about them being rare but a TZR kit would fit the bill also ... tbh TZR owners tended to buy the kit DT ones didn't, which could be down to the DT being 'sweet' on the off road stuff & TZR owners just wanting a load of performance ! Regards Jim
  12. You should have said you where going to Stratford we could have met up !!!! but on the gear stuff just buy what you can afford & dont buy stuff over ur means .. there is a chance it wont work any better than the cheaper stuff Regards Jim

Hi Foamy what does that mean ? so I guess the bike runs like poo over ½ throttle but hey you know better than me ! Regards Jim
  14. Hi, nope the cdi unit did not just stop working it produced loads of odd miss fires, bikes stoping when load applied to the charging system etc. so setting the float height wrong you end up with a leak, and the point that the bike only leaks when hot/warm would follow that through (wrong float height). I guess its time to look at what you have done. Regards Jim

    having a mare

Hi, I have a friend down here in england who is a shock expert in fact he imported & set up KTM m/x bikes to the UK and because of the shit the contry is in he would repair that shock for you but if you would perfer to buy a new one I can see that but the offer is there! Regards Jim
  16. Hi I guess the Fazer will be a bit quicker than a YBR !!! looks a tidy bike .. enjoy Regards Jim
  17. Hi I would guess the fuel running out of the over flows you either have the wrong float height or the needle shuting off the fuel supply is suspect. your back fire (cracker thing) could be down to the CDI playing up, as the unit warms up the signal sent to the coil/plug is then confused and the spark will arrive at the wrong time. This problem could be down to either the CDI unit or the pulse coil (and of course bad earths) so perhaps run thro the whole ignition system Regards Jim
  18. Hi Kevin, the point I was making was that one bike may be restored to std, with the knowledge gained from that the custom builds would be a load easier ! Regards Jim
  19. Hi, I guess we could go back to 70's times .. all take turns on Hazel and everything would be ok .... but in todays form she has to be sacked Regards Jim

    CPC

Hi The training is done over a five year period and you have to do them (35) hours but I would guess a motorcyclist/car drivers would see this as an incumberance and another stealth tax where as in the real world it may reduce the amount of boy racers/old Granies .. to date the class C licence is renewed at 45 then every 5 years there after and of top of that the cpc has a 5 year life span and needs to be addressed within the time frame. so therefore I would guess people who have machines capable of silly speeds should have the same government intervention as class C drivers Regards Jim

  22. dont forget where the Aerox is made ... oh poo its in the the old Moby factory Regards Jim
  23. until the mag dropped off coz the factory ordered a job lot from bosch with the wrong taper tbh the Rekord looked better than the 'wannie be' off road Tiger. but I guess the Superped had to be the Fantic Motor Chopper ! shell we set up a poll ? Regards Jim
  24. Hi Og the MBK factory produced the Yamaha Aerox and other machines of that ilk I guess kids today have fun on them ! Regards Jim
