  1. Hi, UK wise that is a CS2E... our RD's had the main beam waring light in the clocks & not the h/l shell but apart from that the bike is g8 .. if the Topend is siezed you may have problems getting piston etc. But that motor did suffer from the balance weights falling out of the crankshaft (flywheels ?) and stopping the con rod moving .... so it may be the bottom end !!! Regards Jim
  2. The only way to check the diaphragms is to remove the 4 screws from the top of each carb & remove them (watch for the spring flying off) ... the diaphragm should have no holes and should have a similar consistency to a condom .. if it's dried up and/or cracked/split it will need replacement. Regards Jim
  3. Hi Drewps, how do you get off for the condensor ? or does the 'magic' box double as one ? Regards Jim
  4. Hi Richie, dont forget on this motor there is no preset position for the mix screws and these should be adjusted with the yics tool installed to the following :- insure that the valve clearences & cam chain tension are correct install the yics tool balance the carbs to a closer point than 10%, 1% is more like the point you need. At this point you may have a knocking noise from the cam area .. this the is time to adjust the mix screws (I must admit this is difficult to write .. easier to say but I'll do what I can) Warmthe engine start at #1 turn the screw fully home (the motor may die or slow) and turn it out until you get the heighest idle speed (re adjust the idle to 1k) and then follow down the other 3 carbs in order untill you get a smooth idle. To double check switch on the light circut, if the idle drops you are running 'off' and the screws need further adjustment. If you have the mix about right the cam knock will dissappear. But to be honest it would be easier to use some web chat (MSN ?) to relay it to you in words ! Regards Jim

Hi Kev, Not a problem I'll pm u a bit later tonight Regards Jim
  6. Hi Aaronc, I guess you need to adjust the clutch at the push rod end ( crank case cover ) before you take the slack from the cable. The case needs to be tightened up correctly so this adjustment can be made and follow the instructions from the previous post & then adjust the cable at the handle bar. This could work fine but bear in mind that the bike is a long way from being new and you may have to make sure the case & push rod adjuster along with the clutch lever pivot are in good condition if not you may need to replace some bits. Regards Jim
  7. Are you implying that all politicans are bent ? In one of to ways ... 1) do totally the opposite to what they tell you 2) stick there hand up some guy called Basil's arse ... which one ? Regards Jim
  8. Can I put the old ladies Merc on ? Regards Jim
  9. Hi have you replaced the plug yet ( I hope you checked for a spark b4 you put it in) and retried to start the bike ? Still no joy ? how did the new plug come out after attempting to start the bike. Regards Jim

    CPC

Hi Dave, at present I'm not sure wether the first aid/cpr course will count towards the CPC, threw my work we need to have trained in that area anyway but if it is on the list there will be another 7½ hours of the CPC taken up with that. Regards Jim

    CPC

Hi WD, how is this going to be policed ? will it only come to light if you have a tug by the law ? As I do know a few people with horse boxes & 2 of these drive lorries also, So if they were stoped driving a 12 tonne horse box their fine but driving a 12 tonne dust cart and their in the poo. This clause is unfair & all LGV drivers should be made to take the CPC. As my employer is paying for mine I'm not worried about the cost but what is odd a banksman course & a Digi tacho course gets rid of 15 hours !!! Regards Jim
  12. oh Ok perhaps the bikes owned should read "the old mans XT" Regards JIm
  13. Hi, just looked at the site, a fixed 90 degrees dwell, the XS400 is well away from there. From the pictures posted on the site there is no chance the back plate will fit and how do you expect the XS400 ARU to fit behind the new plate (after the shape has been changed to suit the XS400 setup) ? I guess you need to look else where ! Regards Jim
  14. Hi, just get on & do it .. perhaps next years holiday will incompass your work !!! Regards Jim

  16. I still guess the electorate should have the ability to remove their employee so if they dont stand your to their promises just give them the sack and replace them with someone else .. which may mean a few byelections and could change the majority in the house, which in turn could allow government to go forward ! Regards Jim
  17. Wow a Fantic Chopper with the wrong exhaust ( I guess the pic is a 125) .... The 50's (that we sold) had a very ornate upswept exhaust along with gate scrolling across the bars & up the back of the seat. But I still managed a good 50 or so on the chopper as the eyetie speedo was poo but it was good to see an image of one of them again !!! Regards Jim
  18. Hi Paul, that was also one quick ped but suffered with the eyetie (at the time) attention to detail Regards Jim
  19. Ah the tiger that didn't break the crankshaft this one made my life a bit easier !!! Regards Jim
  20. Hi, so what bike are you riddind the MT or the XT ... both 660's I guess Regards Jim

    CPC

Hi WD, perhaps you are missing my point .. if this works why not roll it out to other 'at risk' catogories so europe would then have the control over it .. Ok professional drivers, at present, have to do the CPC but how long will it be before Europe decide all 'at risk' need to be monitored Regards Jim

    Hot DT

Don't forget to check for water in the float bowl using K&N type filters will allow the ingress of water to the carb, which the runs down the jet needle into the float chamber and produces the noted problems. so adjustments to a bike that was running correctly (jet & clip position change) means that the bike may not run correctly until it is returned to how it was. As this bike has a CDI fitted this then brings in another point the pulse coil on 50cc Yamahas of that era played up a bit (through dry joints & the coil itself going ape) When the coil lost spec the ignition timming went out the window and the bike would run like a c/b points system with the condensor nacked .... older people may remember that .. the dry joint used to create the same problem and also a total loss of spark. So I guess just return the bike back to a known good point (this sounds like microsoft windows ?) and adjust one thing at a time. Regards Jim
  23. Hi Mark, You can expect poor performance below about 6k then the bike will take off like a rocket so if you use the gearbox well & keep the engine @ >6k it will run fine. Dependant on which year DT you have ,the TZR bits will fit do some net searches & you will find what you need ! Regards Jim
  24. Hi, I would guess you have either diaphram problems or (linked) a broken/cracked vaccum pipe fromm the fuel tap. I guess you have set the timming/dwell & valve clearences to the correct specs to drop this out of the equation Regards Jim
  25. Hi Martti first off to the forum perhaps the battery is at fault ... it may show the correct voltage but lacks capacity .. which may bear out as when the charging system has charged the battery the bike starts and when the bike is stood for a while the battery dies. But you may have a starter motor on the way out without more info I can not comment. Regards Jim
