i got a '82 yamaha XT 550. Oil has started leaking from the bottom of the engine not a lot of oil just a few drips. but its enough that it lowers the oil level on the dip stick. i put more oil in adjusting the oil level to where it should be... Then i didn't ride for two weeks and now the exhaust note sounds different than it did two weaks prior and i hear what i think are the valves taping/a clicking sound coming from the engine. What yall think?
  3. i've had a problem similar to yours. I would say its an adjustment to your floats , or your float valve is getting stuck. You may just need to replace your float valve.
  4. Thanks spokexx, I have been taking the float bowl off and adusting the floats. I got it so that it will idle with the choke all the way on. But then i will try to give it some gas and it wants to shut off and conk out. It feels like i am working with a space of a couple of milimeters when adjusting the floats. I have toggled with the floats again and now i am back to where i started with gas coming threw the overflow hose. BUt i think you may be right in getting a new float valve. That may solve the problem all together. But i don't know maybe i just need to find the sweet spot in bending the float bracket. Damn its frustrating.

hey, i was driving on the interstate the other day. Um, trying to keep up with my friends who do not have dualsports. anyway, the gas line going into the carbs blew off. The bike was still running fine on the interstate probably because she was all the way opened up. when i pulled off, the engine flooded and it turned off. i eventually put the fuel line back onto the nipple for the carbs. But now whats happening is this. With the gas off everythings okay, no leaking. THe engine just is really flooded if i kick it over and it won't start. When i turn the gas on, fuel starts coming out of the fuel emissions line.(the tube that is hanging underneath the bike, only connected by one end) I am thinking that the carbs just need to drain. But they have let out a significant amount of gas. how much should i let it go? I feel like it is just draining the tank. Any ideas or comments? truely appreciated- IAN
  6. hi, i have a yamaha 550XT dual sport. Its an 82 but only has 5k on it. The other day i was driving on the interstate and i got a little to happy with the throttle i guess. I was going at a speed the bike was not so comfortable with. Anyhow, i began to feel gas leaking on my legs. I exited and quickly pulled off. The fuel line that goes into the carbs had blown off. The bike turned off once i stoped, i believe because it was flooding the carbs. So i put the fuel line back onto nipple leading into the carbs. But now when i turn the gas on a lot of fuel comes out of the fuel emission tube,(you know the tube that is just hangin down under the bike). It just keeps coming out at a steady stream of gas. At first i thought that the carbs are just really flooded and needed to drain, but how long should they drain? I feel like the gas is just coming from the tank. Any ideas or comments? Thanks - IAN
