DY1 was actually the first numberplate, only know this as a friend I knew from Hastings claimed it as the second known thing about the town apart from the Battle of Hastings. They must really struggle. Yeah road legal, I have to pay an annual fee for the priviledge. My bike hasn't been washed for three months, certainly not show condition
  3. Errrm... TWO motorbikes actually. But we sold the brand new XSR125, our lass decided she was happier on the back than in control!
  4. facebook and youtube have both deteriorated imo in so far as some material presented appears slightly suspect, if it makes me less inclined to sit at the pc although maybe that's a good thing lol. Well done winning a motorbike!

on tyres my limited experience is of avon road riders (?) which i thought good all round, last a while, good for relatively budget. then with the thundercat 600 i tried mitchelin pilot 5's i think, these are reputed to be good in the rain and I believe that they were but i felt the rear wheel go a couple of times in the dry so that slightly tarnished them for me although possibly that would have happened with any bike because the thundercat is an agile bike that lends itself to mild abuse ha-ha. Now on the thunderace i see that i have bridgestone tyres, so far these have been fine although somehow one doesn't tend to subject the thunderace to anything too tricky because of its size and weight i suppose, once i had to brake violently but that was OK. Just my rambling thoughts.
  6. Are Facebook Raffle Sites a scam? Well, there's quite a few of them around these days, and I don't doubt some of them are scams, but not all! The one I want to talk about is https://www.revcomps.com/. I know this isn't a scam because I've won on it (quite a few times actually!), including a first Gen Hayabusa! For those of you in the UK, check them out. And if you throw any tickets on, maybe you'd tag my reference code "https://revcomps.com/?ref=33003" It works for me whether it's your first ticket or 100th. Using it gets both of us in special raffles where we could both win something.~ Anyway, check them out guys, and post if you have any questions! Gamble Safely..!

Been having a few problems posting, Alex put me on the right path, seems to be sorted now. Here's the post I was trying to post several days ago! in reply to the photo of the back of Alexs bike earlier...... Well, at least there is a bit more tread! That number plate ...YOC?...Yamaha Owners Club? Is that for shows or is it road legal in Oz? We have a different system here in the UK. I doubt that would have been an available number even back in the day of the early number plate registrations. The registration "A1" being the very first reg I believe. So anything like YOC would be for shows only.

Yeah in fairness, I should probably have gone for the same, considering 99% of my riding is commuting. I just want to have the possiblity that I can get out and go crazy one weekend :D Here's the damage to the wheel. I spoke to the garage and they were apologetic, and will be refunding me for the tyre. At least this will be enough to pay for the wheel to be repaired. Hopefully one of the mobile car alloy repair guys can do it. They were obvisouly in a real rush with my wheel.
  11. Well, that sucks! I've gotta say, I love the Michelin Road 6's, I have them on all my bikes.

And it gets worse, just went to put tyre sealant in and realised they've scratched all my rim with the turntable clamps. Waiting for a call back from the garage.

I do love the tyre pattern on Rossi 4, looks very apt for the MT. Got to have a bit of a play in the wet yesterday, levels above the previous almost slick Dunlop. Guess this is the best compromise I'm prepared to take without going to a more all season tyre.
  17. Todays the day, keep us updated
  18. Hey welcome aboard, that's certainly a nice upgrade, you're going to love it!

Know exactly what you mean when it comes to commuting on a bike vs public transport. Public transport out here is pretty poor considering we're a large city. I don't mind the rain so much, it's the hot days. Sucks being in bike gear sat on an engine in 35+!
  20. Hi all, after a few years of messing around on smaller capacity motorbikes (Honda Grom and a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401) I've decided to jump back onto a bigger bike and will be collecting an XSR 900 on Weds. To say I'm excited is an understatement even if current weather conditions where I am will limit my riding time!

not what you would expect from a tyre fitter - weather here in the UK is horrible but I venture out a bit on chores, it is the time of year that we don't get a lot of daylight which, together with overcast skies, gives a feeling of gloom, not biking conditions although, in the past I've been a motorcycle commuter so it's what you get used to. The alternative was a train, each week one day my train would be cancelled so the next one was brimming full, rather face grim weather on a motorbike than that lol. Our railways here have always been awful, in my time and my father's time.

Hope he's ok, I had the same recently, used to have an amazing mobile guy with a kitted out van. Who'd come to my place and most of time fix/service on site. Occasionaly when really busy, they'd just take the bike to their workshop and bring it back. He had a heart attack and has now stopped working. Have the pain in the ass now of having to take my bike to the garage and wait around or uber back etc.

@neo sadly quite a lot of tread left, they're the Dunlop sportmax, relly don't have much tread, perfect dry weather tyre for Sydney roads. Bit too sketchy in the wet for my liking though, so went with the Rossi 4 this time. @Mr Bignel totally, I would never skimp on tyres, have always bought the best I could afford. Never know when that extra capacity is needed. The Yamaha dealer, Racecourse Motors did an awful job of fitting the tyre, had a really uncomfortable ride home. I realised 1km down the road something was wrong, but didn't have time to go back due to needing to pick the kids up. Later that evening I discovered there was about 3mm chain slack when the bike was on it's sidestand, and the rear wheel was well out of alignment. Really wasn't expecting that from a dealer. They said I could bring the bike back and they'd fix it, but they're about 20km away so quicker to do it myself. Can't comment on the tyre yet, it was raining today, but didn't want to push a new tyre in the wet. IMG_0067.MOV

got to have tyres in a condition that you can trust - our only points of contact 🙂

It may be the angle of the camera...but is there any tread left on those tyres Alex?😂

This looks like bloody scrapnel, doubt this is repairable. Anyway happy Friday all!
  28. Alex started following Grr. New tyre time.
  29. I find myself thinking about this coming year with a certain amount of nervous dread I regret to say which can't be a good thing. Where I live it is getting busy, more traffic, house building and rush - you can get round it with planning routes and times, that is the new way to go it seems.
  30. The Tunderace was meant to be with mechanic Simon at Milton Common motorcycles, about 10 miles east of Oxford UK today but it turned out that his place was shut and according to a note on the door and a conversation with a relatively nearby shop/cafe owner he has been off ill since late November. Later, I found out that he had a heart attack, presumably recovering at present. Arranged to take the bike to another place and booked it in for about a month from now.
  31. lower fairings off pending a visit to a local bike mechanic (panels off saves his time) for a bit of checking and refurbishing, temp bodged some indicators on the front top fairing to ride it over to the mechanics place, hopefully it will be good for 2026 thereafter. Main worries are a noise which is likely a worn EXUP valve, I'd like another opinion and a check on the tensioner for the cam chain if necessary. Other thing is a tendency to back fire when restarted, it lifted the carbs off their seating on one occasion. Perhaps carburettor balancing will resolve that, I hope so.
