Those screws like any of the other ones in those carbs are easily broken loose with an impact screwdriver. I whack it a few times in the center position of the tool them turn it to the loosen position and one whack has them loose. You may want to join the vmaxforum.net site and check as there is detailed pics of the carb removal and also another section that shows how to set the float height correctly on the bench. Sean Morley Yes Sean, it is the diaphragm covers, Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. Just hope the screws are high tensile!
one2dmax
Yes Sean, it is the diaphragm covers, Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. Just hope the screws are high tensile! I do them regularly (4 sets last month) and I have never had a bolt break. They are almost always stuck. You can use vicegrips too which works well. They will only be tight right at the start then will pop loose and come out very easily. If you think you may be servicing in the future (or tuning for a jet kit) then you may want to buy new allen headed screws from your hardware store and replace the screws. I specialize in Vmax stuff and keep a lot of parts (new and used as well as custom/modified) on hand so feel free to ask any questions you like and i'll help if I can. Sean [email protected] Thanks again Sean, I've had a closer look at the carbs today and one of the screws appears to be a "shear Head" screw. I guess the only option for that one is the "vicegrips"? I guess the only option for that one is the "vicegrips"? You can buy the "tamper proof" torx bit for them but I just use vicegrips (carefull not to grab too deep as it will scar the cover a little). Just crack them loose and you can remove them by hand 95% of the time. Sean Morley
