Posted May 1, 200816 yr I have bought a Yamaha ft1 with the intention of restoring it and riding it, it does not have a tax book or logbook or a reg plate, what can I do to get the bikes details and register it? Ive emailed my local Yam dealer so Im sure some1 can help
May 1, 200816 yr Moderator Have a look for the frame number - it will be on the frame - obviously lol. You will then have to apply to the DVLA for a new log book which will cost you £25 You can download the form here: DVLA Hopefully the frame wont have belonged to a bike thats been a write off at some point - else you'll end up Q plating it and its a REAL ballache cos i did it a few years back with an ex track bike - was a real pain in the arse!
May 2, 200816 yr Author The frame and engine numbers both match so thats a good start, I dont think the frame is bent although the forks are so I hope the headstock is ok! there is no registration on the bike, so Ive contacted Yamaha uk with the frame/engine numbers and hopefully they can help

I have read somewhere that you can do a HPI check with just the frame number and get the registration number at the same time. once you have the reg number its easy from there.

Damn, I have the same problem. I went to the Police in the end, because of the data protection act they couldn't give me any details. The vjmc can only issue certificates on pre 1990 bikes, where do I go for post '90 I don't know what year my bike is. Is there someone who can track the bike from VIN, it's not a 17 digit VIN but it's a 90's bike. The DVLA reckon all post 1980 vehicles have a 17 digit VIN. Mine is YM *3GM-00????* does anybody know the year the FZR1000 EXUP 3GM model was released? Everywhere I've looked they say 1992 but it doesn't have USD's so I can only presume 1989.
