Posted April 29, 200816 yr My son has just bought a DT125 2003 and after riding it for the second day it suddenly stopped. He had done nothing wrong, and checked the obvious, eventually calling out a mobile motorcycle mechanic. Upon inspection the CDI unit was missing. We cannot see how this could have possibly fell off as it is apparently secured with a block type connecter, a bullet connecter and a screw to the frame, although I am told that it must have been there as the bike would not have moved without it! Can someone confirm that this soiunds correct, and if so where can I get one of these things from without going through a main dealer. I have tried a few breakers and ebay - main dealer is looking around £200 ! Thanks for any advice Vince

Thanks for any advice Vince yes that is quite true, the bike would not fire without the cdi so im assuming it has tumbled down the road somewhere, I think the cdi unit was mounted underneath the tank or somewhere near the oil tank at the front of the bike. mine has it mounted underneath the tank but mines an 06 dt125x, you can find cdi units on ebay from time to time, just make sure you get the correct 1, or a tzr unit might fit but again you need to find out if it will work

May 29, 200816 yr Author Hi Mike No sorry cannot help. We have ended up scrapping the bike (it had other issues), and selling everything seperate - have made good money incidentally. The CDI seems to be a sought after item, particularly as the dealers seem to want silly money for them. We had loads of enquiries from when we started breaking the bike seeing if it was availble. May be worth googling up motorcycle breakers and posting a "wanted ad" a few came back to us although as we didnt have the original unit I hit a brick wall as they seemed to need to see a photo of the current one to match it up Vince Vince Could you help me.
