pitted front forks

hi folks i'm in need of some ideas on how to clean up the aluminium (bottom section) of my front forks which have white powder like pit marks on them any suggestions ? cheers

belive it or not, the white powder is protecting the alu underneath!

best way is to use wet and dry, start rough and work your way to 1200

NEVER USE WIRE WOOL, it embeds into the soft alu and then rusts!!

I stick mine on a polishing mop then peeks polish to keep it that way.

would a coat of clear sealant paint afterwards (spray or roll on) keep the pitting from coming back/protect the finish?

im assuming that your forks are the same as mine, with the stanchions on the bottom.

I wouldn't as the varnish lifts after a bit and looks horrible.

I did consider all the merits when I rebuilt my bike. so in the end I opted to hand polish every now and then and after 2 years it looks as good as when i first did it!!
