SR71 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Hi everyone I just bought my first street bike and now I'm looking to get some safety apparel. My bike is a 1997 yamaha YZF 1000, I'm looking at a Arai for a Helmet. But I'm not to sure what to get for Leathers. I know Kangaroo Leather is one of the best types for street bikes, Who makes a good Kangaroo leather jacket, pants, and cloves??? Thanks everyone
Matt Hillyard Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I think Arlen Ness do kangaroo leathers but dont discount Alpinestars, Rev'it, Frank Thomas and a few others as they do some superb leathers and to be fair boots and gloves too at reasonable prices. What sort of Arai you looking at?? Ive got the Corsair Haga 41 lid and its amazingly light and visibility is good. I personally use: Arai Corsair Helmet Rev'it GT Corse 1 piece leathers Frank Thomas leather/Carbon fibre gloves Alpinestars SMX plus boots Check some of those bits out as i think they are really nice kit....
SR71 Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 I'm currently looking into the Arai Quantum 2 helmet. Does anyone know well tested the Arai helmets are tested? Thanks
Moxxberg Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I'm currently looking into the Arai Quantum 2 helmet. Does anyone know well tested the Arai helmets are tested? Thanks arai is the best helmet you can buy.... arai and suomy.... i usually go by this motto, if its good enough for the pros then its good enough for me.... alpinestars is great for leathers too
CurlyGirl Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Yep, I can recommend Arlen Ness 'roo leathers. My husband has owned a one-piece suit for a while and rates it highly. It's incredibly light. I also have a set of kangaroo leathers but these are a two-piece made to measure by Hideout in the UK as I'm quite ickle and off the peg rarely fit. I also have some leather Alpinestars Cat Pants and an Ixon leather jacket, both of which I'm very happy with and use every day on my commute to work. The Ixon jacket especially good cos of the fit and superb supple quality leather. Anyhoo, as for helmets, I've recently switched from years of Arai to Shoei. Both excellent quality but find the Shoei lighter tho a bit noisier but this has been resolved by a "whisper kit". Good luck with finding kit you like. My recommendation is go find stuff you like, always try it on assuming the "sitting on bike crouch", note the size/model etc then go surfin' the Net to find it cheapest
