XVS125 Problems

Hi

I have just finished rebuilding an XVS125 i bought in bits. I have been having problemss with the lights which are now sorted, however the battery went flat a few times when i was testing them. It goes flat very quickly, is this usual?

I recharged the battery and started it up, it was running fine so i took it for a test ride. After about 10 minutes of riding i stalled it and could not get it going again. It started a couple of times and was really surging up & down whilst idling. Whenever i touched the throttle it just died. After a few tries the battery went flat and i have just had to push it back home.

Does anyone have any advice as to what the problem could be.
