morning all

i have a 2001 tdm 850 and just recently have had problems with what i think is carb icing. the bike dosent respond to the throttle and feels like its running out of petrol. the thing is it starts fine runs fine and top end seems ok. the problem only occours about a mile or so into a journey and if your riding steady sometimes it cuts out if you have to stop for traffic lightsstarts again after a few minutes then its ok. has anyone else had this?

regards

twidge

pop to your local bike supply shop and buy some fuel additive. waynes do it, cant remember the exact name but it stops carb icing.

On a side not be careful, if your bike suffers carb icing at high speed the throttle locks open lol

Yes do be careful about this. kawasakis did tend to have problems with carb icing which led to the death of someone and accidents to others. If you have air filters in, it should not happen, but it is part of the function of the carb venturi that causes the problem. If you have water in your fuel it is more likely to happen.

yes i totaly agree with that,

remove the float bowls and check for bubbles in the petrol this is water, and can cause these symptoms.

However Carb icing is also a possiblity, so be very careful when riding.

Let us know how it goes.
