MT-03 SAFETY RECALL: Exhaust Muffler Protector

Re-call issued for exhaust system on the MT-03.

EDIT -

The VOSA Vehicle Recalls Website now has details.

The EU Rapid Alert System for non-food products(RAPEX) is not presently returning any results.

Full commentary will be posted in the recall section of the MT-Owners-Club Forum - Recall Notices - As always ;)

Letters are being sent out to registered owners. Quoted below is the bulk of the letters text.

... As part of Yamaha's policy of constantly monitoring the quality and performance of it's products we regret to announce that the factory has identified a potential defect with your machine whereby under certain circumstances the clearance between the exhaust muffler and its left hand protector may not be sufficient, causing it to come (sic) unduly hot. In rare cases this may result in the muffler protector starting to melt and in the extreme, emitting smoke, causing undue concern to the rider and/or their pillion.

For safety reasons therefore, we would like to advise you to contact your authorised Yamaha dealer at your earliest convenience quoting your machine's chassis number and current mileage, to arrange a mutually convenient appointment for them to replace the exhaust muffler protectors with new modified parts...

This work will of course be carried out free of charge.
