I have a 79' model DT175 which I'm getting ready for registration.

The oil light (2 stroke tank under side cover)is on all the time.

I have pulled out the switch and checked the operation of the contacts which seem OK.

The switch has 3 wires going to it ( I could not work out why it needed 3 wires?) and on closer inspection I found that there is a diode inside a resin type of plug in the top of the switches rubber top.

I checked the diode and it seems OK. ( I'm an Electrician)

When I disconnect the diode the switch works OK.

I would like to know what the diodes purpose in life is??

Why would you need a diode across what should be a simple switch??

Thanks Mark
