no spark

guys im sure im in the wrong place but im running out of options

my son owns a 1999 yamaha neos 50 "yeah i know its only a 50 but its his first bike"

long story short he came off in wet conditions snapped the exhause which melted his 2stroke oil feed and thus seized the engine..................

we sourced a replacement exhaust and engine from the local ebay

but the engine was from a 2003 model neos 50..............

after fitting the engine we noticed the the connector that runs to the "spinny thingy" grr whats it called its like a generator well the plug from his 99 bike had a 2block connector and 2x single connectors the new 03 model one has a sing 4block connector............................

ah simple you say just match the colours and joing the wires.

tried that NO SPARK ............. so my worry is there a difference that i wasnt told about onthe 99 to 03 models ???

thats why im here my son really needs the bike for school and his part time job which now take nearly 2 hours to get to and from on his bmx...............

so if im in the wrong place and help and pointers would be really appreciaed
