I'm after some help and advice.

I have just bought a 94 YZF750R. Not had a bike for a few years. It's the same old thing. It works fine when you ride it away, and then the next day problems start to rear their ugly heads. <_<

I've had it 3 weeks now and when it's cold (1st thing in the morning) or if it's raining, it's a bugger to get running. If I go straight in with the choke then it gets flooded. A few minutes later I'll get a backfire. Not really ideal at 0700hrs in a quiet culdesac!

If i try to start it without choke, it'll 'put put' and stop. The engine will turn over but there is no spark. Then, if I put the choke on, it'll take 2-3 atempts then it'll fire up - then stall. This will happen a good 5 times before it stays running. It'll warm up and the revs will increase to 3000rpm. Choke off and it'll idle at 1100rpm. Although a bit lumpy, I'll have no more problems.

Bit of a pain doing this every morning. The battery isn't gunna keep doing that for long!

When it's warm it'll start no problem. Although it'll still sit at 1100rpm and be a bit lumpy. Add 200rpm and it sounds fine. What should the idle speed be?

If anyone can help with the above problems I'd appreciate very much.

Cheers

Shane

Hey shaneo. How cold are we talking? Idle speed should be about 1000-1200. I know with my yzf750, I have to start it and give it a little gas on cold mornings, and she does NOT want to start. You have to love carbs. You might want to invest in an extension cord and hair dryer to warm her up on the cold days.

Not too cold. Just the average British winter. 5-6Deg C.

I think I've got a technique for starting it now. Goes everytime. The idle is still way low though.

I need to learn how to alter it!

Not sure i fancy playin gthe the carbs too much mind! Never played with them before.

I've just made some paddock stand bobins on my lathe but the bolt sizes recommended by evey man and his dog are wrong. They recommend M10X1.25. I've just tried them and they don't fit. Gunna have to take the bike to work and find out what thread they are. Any one have any idea????
