luvmyfz6 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi there, I was wondering what octane fuel I should use in my 06 Yamaha FZ6. The owners manual says regular or 87 octane fuel. I was noticing that the compression ratio is 12:2:1 so would a higher octane fuel help the performance any? I live in CA USA, octanes are 87, 89, 91. Also does anyone recommend a certain brand of fuel? I usually go with Chevron.
CCHOUSEKY Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I've got an '06 FZ6 and I've tried everything from 87 to 93. I do notice a difference in the two. When I put the 87 in, I noticed a knocking in the engine. Nothing too bad, but it still wasn't something I wanted all the time. Now I always use 93 octane (I live in Kentucky). I would say go with the highest grade you can find. The little bit of extra cost is worth the piece of mind.
