Hi,

Im going to look at two bikes ones and FJ1200 with ABS 1991 30k on the clock and the other is a TDM850 1994 with 35k on the clock both have MOT.

i know there chalk and cheese but can anyone point me in what to look out for on either of these bikes Im swaying towards the FJ at the moment to be honest. Any advice or info would be welcome.

Thanks

Wow there is two completly differant bikes, I own a FJ so I would look for on the FJ

1) Fork Seals , FJ's eat them.

2)Clutch slave seals , ditto.

3)ABS warning light should extinguish as soon as bike starts, if flashing there are problems (Electrical) but they will still operate fine. Very expensive to replace/repair. I have junked mine.

4) Rear shock and suspension linkage/often negleted.

5) Wheel/head bearings.

6) Front calipers sieze.

and all the usall stuff, the Engine is pretty unbreakable and with just 30k it's only just run in.

Adam.

Make sure the TDM has had regular oil changes. The 850 twin is a dry sump so checking the oil level isn't easy. It is easy to let the oil get too low which will wreck the crank.

Looking at your existing bikes seems to me the FJ would be more your style, a mate of mine bought one recently and although a lovely bike found it too sporty so has traded it in for a Varedero, which is more his style....suppose it all depends on wherever you fancy a change from your normal ride.
