richardb Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Yamaha FJ600, 1984, Need help with Airbox removal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to remove the airbox. It is jammed into a little triangle of the frame below the seat. I have the carbs off, the battery and battery holder off, the airbox loose. It does not look like it will come out without removing other components. Will removing the starter allow it to come out? Otherwise it appears the engine must be moved or removed. Help.
Phil F Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I had to same problem a few months ago on my FJ600. If I remember correctly it was an engine out job. All the Best
Moderator YamaHead Posted June 7, 2007 Moderator Posted June 7, 2007 to the forum Richard Man, this scenario sounds waaaaay too familiar! I had the same issue with my XJ550 Seca...(Predacessor to the FJ)....basically very similar. Ended up dropping the motor after damn near breaking the airbox trying to pry it out with the motor in. Pretty sure that the airbox is 1 of the 1st components installed into the frame from the factory. Best of Luck dude

Can I install foam or paper air filters directly at the end of each carb ? Then, if that's my plan I could just destroy the airbox and cut ut up to remove it. Any suggestions for potential air filters that will fit and look good, and work ?
