Hi

New to the site........I need help.

In the process of selling my TTR 600, went to start it today and while I was kicking it over (no electric start) there seemed to be a "clunk".

Now there is no resistance on the kick starter, it doesn't seem to be engaging, it is free to move travels its full travel but just doesn't engage with any cogs/teeth/gears.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but I can hear a click from the decompressor as the kick starter moves to the bottom of its travel. Could the problem be linked at all.

The bike is a bit of a monster to start and can take a while with numerous kicks on the starter, have I just worn the mechanism out stripping teeth ??? Doesn't feel like that because the kickstarter now moves freely without any nasty noises.

The bike is on e bay at the moment and auction due to end on Friday so I need to sort it out quick, please help if you can.

Cheers

Steve

Hi

The shaft that the kickstart is on has a cam which works the de compressor which is obviously working ok , but it has a gear on the same shaft which turns the engine over ,if you arnt getting the engine turning over it looks like a problem with this cog which would probably mean stripping it down.

Thanks Tomy.

You were right, I have since taken the bike into local workshop and they have found a stripped cog "kick start rachet" I think they said.

Bits are going to cost £98 and 4 hours labour, not going to get much change from £250.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
