Hi everyone,

This might be a delicate question, since this is the Yamaha realm, but any reply to this question would be highly appreciated.

I currently still live in the States and plan to move back to Austria by summer. (Can't wait to be in Europe again...)

Since I've been riding a ZRX over the last years (as you probably know, no other naked muscles are available here), there's no question that I'll stay in this class of bikes. I can't wait to upgrade once I'm back home!

I've been researching online like a madman, and it's absolutely clear that it'll only be a xjr or a gsx.

They seem equaly awesome, but both also have a downside...

The gsx is out of production, and the xjr only has 5 gears (I've always been missing the overdrive on my zrx).

My question:

Does anyone have experience with both bikes? If so, please, please give me your opinion!

Also, what do you think about EU-bikes ("grey imports")? There are a few in Germany who'd deliver to my door. Any takes on that?

Hope to hear from you soon, and thanx a million.

Keep the rubber down,

Martin

I've a GSX1400 and love it..I've always been a Yamaha fan but the big Suzi is really special. It handles remarkably well and the engine has so much torque. It really oozes character and I love the looks. I'd a couple of hours blasting round the mountains here in Scotland today and it was great. I'm lucky eneogh to own an R1 as well which is great but not such an all rounder. There's an excellent owners site:www.gsx1400.org/ The guys there are very helpfull. Most importantly you must change the stock suspension settings, this will tranform the handling. I believe the GSX is still in production it's just not going to be imported into the UK poss due to competing with the new Bandit.

Hi Tango,

Thanx for the opinion. Blasting through the highlands... sounds like a dream. Some day...! (Envy is rising.)

Did you ever have the opportunity to also ride a XJR? After conversing with a few more blokes who've ridden both, the GSX and the XJR, I'd love to hear someone finally vote for the GSX. These guys also really enjoyed the Suzi, but both shared the same experience of the XJR having more "soul". I know what they mean, but for me having a 6th gear available plus a better suspension makes just such a difference. So, even I like the appeal of the XJR a bit better, I'm still going back and forth between the two. I realise that it'll have to come down to getting both of them under my arse and letting my guts decide once I'm in Austria. Any further comments are very welcomed though.

Take care, m8!

Martin
