Newbie here, hope you can help.

Tonight I took my 2001 model R1 out which I have just purchased. After an hours riding the speedo went blank, and then came back on and then went off again. When I then slowed down at a junction the bike just cut out and would not start. When I got it back into the garage, I tried to start it again, but I am only getting a buzzing noise coming from a black box with two screws on it under the seat. I had a look and it has denso 12V written on it, next to the battery. I think this is the CDI unit or starter???

I assume you would have done but have you checked the voltage of the battery?

Checked the voltage across the battery tonight and got a reading of 12.3v to start with then after about 20 seconds it it went down to 11v, so I think it may be the battery. I am charging the battery tonight to see if this is the problem.
