Starts fine on cold mornings but after a couple of miles it starts running like a bag of spanners. Had 24k service last week and didnt clear the problem. Any other time it runs sweet as a nut

Carb Icing?

Not sure if the FZS600 is affected by it - get some silkolene pro from Halfords, bang some in your fuel tank and see if that improves it. Also allow the bike to warm up properly before riding off.

Could well be carb icing. I had a similar problem with my YZF a little while ago. It would run fine but after a run down the motorway she'd cough and splutter if I whacked the throttle open from a closed position. Cleaned the air filter and ran a strong mix of Redex and I've not had a problem since. If it's been serviced then it's unlikely that the air filter is to blame so run a fuel booster like Redex or Nitrox Street Legal and see if it improves.
