first of all let me say hi to all you folks out there with yam's.

i'm just after a bit of knowledge on the old DOHC 750 shaftie, something i've dreamed of owning since i first saw them in 1977, and now own after my very first winning bid on ebay ( and probably the last if my wife has any say on the matter )

anyway to the question do these things run ok on unleaded fuel? or will i need to introduce some sort of additive into the tank

the bike in question is a 1978 vintage XS 750E

and i know bad things will happen to me now i've got it, and most of the gearbox is made out of cheese, and the electrics were made before they invented copper wire, and the brakes only work when the temperature is above 15 degrees and not raining ....... but oh that sound that eminates from the exhaust turns my legs to jelly probably not a good thing being as the thing weighs more than 500 pounds... think that goes back to the first comment i made.

but anyway enough of my waffle hope some1 out there can help me and if you can thanks very much, appreciate it

no problem running on unleaded as Yamaha designed for the american market which introduced unleaded circa 1970.

thanks drewpy youve put my mind at rest.

The xs went on its maiden voyage last night shes still a bit coughy after her layup but getting better all the time, think she will improve no end when i treat her to some new plugs at the weekend.

i did notice that she had lost one of her side panels on the run though, much to my dismay. ( so it begins ) i followed my tracks twice looking for it but to no avail. Looks like its all eyes cast to ebay for the next few weeks

(read months) for a replacement.

thanks again

bart
