I’ve just picked up my Yamaha DT50MX bought in 1988, used for a year, and then stored at my parents for the last 31 years with a view to getting it up and running again! All told it’s in pretty good nick.  It’s not been started for 5+ years, needs a little TLC and some attention to get it looking great again!

One thing that has dawned on me is given it’s a 2 stroke, what needs to be done to convert it to run on unleaded?

Any advice or pointers to assistance would be much appreciated.

I’ve tried googling the answer but cannot find much.

Many thanks in advance.

You don't have to do anything, the bike will run fine on normal unleaded. The only reason older 4 strokes need fettling is the valve seats and as you don't have any it will run just fine with the normal 2 stroke oil mix.

Try and use super unleaded unless in Scotland parts of wales and West Country.

It tends to be no ethanol fuel although some   garages won’t tell you.
