Hi All, First off a very Merry Christmas to you all.

After not riding for over twenty years this will be my first time back out on two wheels once I get the old girl back up and running.

I recently acquired an '88 XV400 Virago and I am in the process of getting her back on the road. having a little high idle and back fire issue when on the throttle but other than that she looks like a clean well cared for bike for the age.

if any of you could point me to the best places to get technical advice and where to buy spare parts that would be awesome.

One question I do want to know, and if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated is this. What other fuel tanks can I install on the XV400? It is the same as the very early XV535 and has a dummy top tank with the fuel tank located under the seat. Can I just use a later model XV535 tank and copy the setup? any ideas help would be really appreciated.

Can't help with the bike much, customs don't have 2 stroke engines.

Otherwise welcome, hope you get it sorted, probably a set of plugs and such will see it fine, a 400 will be a jap import. Don't worry about that too much.

As far as parts, Fowlers. Maybe yambits or webmoto.

if its a high idle will it not slow by adjusting the throttle stop scrwe on the carb?...or has the rubber connector cracked/perished, an age thing?

greetings mr Miller :welcome:

Thanks all, there is a small hole in the exhaust which I have patched up and I intend on taking off the carbs and giving them a good clean out / service. I'll check all the rubbers and see if anything has perished and needs replacing too.

Just a quick note to Cynic, this is a four stroke V Twin not a two stroke :-) it's basically the same as the XV535 Virago just with smaller 400cc heads.

I know its a 4 stroke, i prefer 2 strokes.

My bucket list has a vmax on it but that's the only 4 stroke i would buy. And have permission if i find one i like, (Stock, Full power, Vvgc, not black, with under 15k (under 10 even better) on the clock  hint) that isn't a train ride away.

They behave like 2 strokes. And i have wanted one as much as the TDR, well nearly.
