Simon46 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Hi all. Glad to be back. I was told not to ride motorbikes again by my doc. Since I broke foot its fixed my left shoulder for some reason so on Tuesday went out and bought a 1987 xt600 2n4 . Love to be back on a bike again. Now where do those restrictors live?
blackhat250 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Good on yeh si", you still on the DT " forum too ,, ? ,
Simon46 Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 Yes on dt forum. Not ridden it in a while. Trying to log in here on tapatalk to upload photos of the pair but its not accepting password.
Simon46 Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 Love the kickstart only on this 1987 minter. Whilst learning the technique a hot start took me 10 mins. T shirt soaked in sweat. Youve got one try. If you flood it its over. Move away from the petrol pump so other people can fill up.

Simon46 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Anybody know where I can get an airfilter guide that fits between upper and lower airfilters. Its missing and unavailable so my airfilter gets sucked into the carb. or will I have to fork out for a K and N? Sorry bike is a 2NF not 2n4 german restricted 20KW if someone can edit the title 34L-14458-00

Simon46 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Cheers finnerz. No knocks or smoke. The bolted on tailpipe ia off a rz250. Might sell it when I buy another tailpipe. Maybe it was part of the 20kW restrictions. Bit rhe bullet and Ordered the k&n. Arriving tomorrow 60 quid.
finnerz89 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I thought the pipe looked a bit strange lol. How else is it restricted?
Simon46 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Still trying to find this one out. Will have To go through full cmsl parts list to see if cdi is restricted. Apparently its a rare model.
Moderator Cynic Posted October 2, 2017 Moderator Posted October 2, 2017 Just quessing here but seeing as the 'normal' XT uses a dual stage 27mm tekai carb, I would think your bike with it having a whopping great chunk of hp cut, like 15 or 20 kw. That the easiest way to neutralise the power would be to use a single carb, or de activate the second stage. That is an awful lot of power to lose from a cdi, all that can really to is change the ig some and clip peak rpm, neither really restrict a big single. So that's unlikely. For a really small market model in 1987 Yamaha would not have bothered themselves with developing a different engine/cylinder head. But stopping the second stage (just like blanking a powervalve on a 2 stroke) and some exhaust/inlet restrictors would be really easy. I may be miles off, but its where I would start.
Simon46 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Ive got to investigate but I have read on the interweb that the carb rubbers maybe different. The exhaust headers look quite thin too. Another investigation to get my teeth into. Woohoo
blackhat250 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Hee" i think it sounds ;ile one of them static engines " [ same bhp too, . ---- then am a biast 2stroker,,,
Simon46 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Oh thank you so much blackhat. I wish the idle speed on the xt went that low. Do you want a 0-60 race on my 175mx? I have the spanners out fettling stuff now. The missus is still at work Now the k&n parcel has arrived. Where do I apply the lube?
